| As the core of modern finance, commercial banks have become increasingly important in risk management, especially in the face of the continuous changes in the economic and social environment. They have become crucial to the stable operation of the financial market and the sustainable development of commercial banks. On the other hand, emerging digital technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing have revolutionized the operational models and risk management systems of commercial banks. Therefore, studying and analyzing the impact of digitalization on the comprehensive risk management level of commercial banks from a micro perspective is of great significance and value for improving the risk management capabilities of Chinese commercial banks in the digital era, promoting the efficient transformation of Chinese commercial banks into digital enterprises, and ensuring the stable operation of Chinese commercial banks. This article first summarizes and comments on domestic and foreign relevant research literature on digitalization of commercial banks, risk management of commercial banks, relevant measurement methods, and the impact of digitalization on risk management of commercial banks. Then,it introduces Joseph Alois Schumpeter’s innovation theory, information economics theory, and financial intermediary theory.Based on these theoretical foundations, the article analyzes the impact mechanism of digitalization on the comprehensive risk management of commercial banks from three levels: digital talent input, digital strategic awareness, and digital ecological construction.Next, the article defines the concepts of digitalization and comprehensive risk management of commercial banks, constructs a comprehensive evaluation index system for the degree of digitalization and the comprehensive risk management level of commercial banks, and uses the CRITIC weighting method and factor analysis method to calculate the digitalization index and comprehensive risk management level index of commercial banks. Then, the development status and problems of digitalization and risk management of commercial banks are summarized and analyzed. And then, the article selects 30 commercial banks listed on the A-share market in China from 2015 to 2021 as research sample data, including 6 state-owned large banks,9 joint-stock banks,9 city commercial banks, and 6 rural commercial banks. It uses a fixed-effects model to explore the relationship between the degree of digitalization of commercial banks and the comprehensive risk management level, and conducts heterogeneity analysis on different types of commercial banks. The conclusion is that the degree of digitalization is significantly positively correlated with the comprehensive risk management level of commercial banks. Therefore, improving the degree of digitalization of commercial banks can effectively enhance their comprehensive risk management level. From the results of heterogeneity analysis, there is no significant relationship between the degree of digitalization of state-owned large banks and the comprehensive risk management level, while the degree of digitalization of non-state-owned commercial banks is significantly positively correlated with the comprehensive risk management level.Among them,joint-stock banks have the strongest significance, while city commercial banks and rural commercial banks have relatively weak significance, indicating that the promotion effect of improving the degree of digitalization on the comprehensive risk management level of joint-stock banks is more obvious, while that of city commercial banks and rural commercial banks is relatively less significant. Finally, this article proposes suggestions on how to improve the comprehensive risk management level of commercial banks in the digital economy era based on the research conclusions above: commercial banks should further promote digital transformation, enhance risk management awareness, improve comprehensive risk management models, and build big data risk control systems. |
