Research On The Impact Of Manufacturing Industry Relocation On The Development Of Servie Industry

With the increase in labor and other costs,industrial relocation has become an important solution to reduce production costs;At the same time,the service industry has become a new driving force for the long-term sustainable and healthy development of the Chinese economy.What are the impacts and mechanisms of manufacturing relocation on the development of the service industry? How to use the relocation of manufacturing industry as an opportunity to promote the development of the service industry is a problem worthy of in-depth exploration.This article aims to comprehensively and systematically examine the relationship between manufacturing industry relocation and service industry development within the theoretical framework,and to reveal the impact of manufacturing industry relocation on service industry development in China.This article first reviews relevant theories such as industry relocation and service industry development,analyzes the impact of manufacturing industry relocation on service industry development from both positive and negative aspects,as well as the mechanism of factor optimization and technological innovation.It is proposed that whether manufacturing industry relocation promotes or suppresses service industry development depends on the level of regional urbanization,industrialization development stage,and marketization.Secondly,this article examines the current trend of manufacturing industry migration at the international and domestic regional levels,and constructs an index of the degree of manufacturing industry migration in30 provinces of China from 2004 to 2020 and measures it.The results show that the manufacturing industry mainly shows a migration from the eastern coast to the central and western regions.Once again,based on the measurement results of the outward migration index,the development status of the service industry in various provinces was examined.The results showed that both in terms of relative scale and development quality,the development level of net outward migration areas in the eastern coastal areas was higher than that of net inward migration areas in the central and western regions,and the relative scale improvement speed of the service industry was faster than the development quality.On the basis of mechanism analysis and current situation investigation,this article further uses data from 30 provinces in China from 2004 to 2020 and a regular panel regression model to empirically test the impact and mechanism of manufacturing industry relocation on the development of the service industry;Given the threshold characteristics of the promotion effect of manufacturing relocation on the development of the service industry,this article also uses a threshold regression model for empirical testing.The results show that,firstly,overall,the relocation of manufacturing industries has a promoting effect on the development of the service industry.The relative scale and development quality of the service industry are consistent,and this positive effect is more pronounced in net relocation areas.Secondly,from the perspective of mechanism,the mechanism of technological innovation is to some extent positive,but the mechanism of factor optimization is not significant.Thirdly,from the perspective of threshold characteristics,after the net relocation of manufacturing industries from areas beyond the threshold of urbanization,industrialization,and marketization,the relocation of manufacturing industries will have a positive impact on the development of service industries;At the same time,Beijing and Shanghai have successively crossed the threshold of urbanization and industrialization,while other net relocation areas outside of Hainan and Qinghai have successively crossed the threshold of marketization.In view of this,this article proposes some policy suggestions to promote the development of the service industry:(1)establish a sound regional coordinated development mechanism,and take measures to promote the development of the service industry according to local conditions;(2)Efforts should be made to enhance regional technological innovation capabilities and reasonably optimize the allocation of factor resources;(3)Accelerate the construction of regional infrastructure and enhance the level of urbanization development in the region;(4)Implement measures to ensure regional industrial development and enhance the level of industrialization development in the region;(5)Improve the mechanism of free market competition and enhance the level of regional market-oriented development.
