| Urbanization is not only an important indicator to measure the degree of modernization and development of a country, but also an inevitable trend of economic and social development. After the reform and opening up,China’s production economy is thriving and the urbanization rate is steadily increasing year by year. However, urbanization construction leads to income gap between urban and rural residents, which will be adverse to eliminating polarization and ultimately achieving common prosperity. The Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps(hereinafter referred to as the Corps),is central to the stabilization of Xinjiang,is also facing such problems in the process of urbanization. The Corps’ economic development has been improving for some time, with the Corps’ gross domestic product exceeding 300 billion yuan in 2021,an increase of 8% over the previous year. The industrial structure is gradually optimized, and the development situation is steadily improving, while playing an important role in promoting the economic development of Xinjiang. The Corps has pioneered modern agriculture in Xinjiang and is one of the three pillars of the Xinjiang economy. This paper combines the background of the times and the real problems, through the current situation of the income gap between urban and rural residents of the Corps, deeply analyzes the impact of urbanization on the income gap between urban and rural residents of the Corps and proposes countermeasures and suggestions to narrow the income gap between urban and rural residents of the Corps. In the background of urbanization, this paper draws on the excellent research results of domestic and foreign scholars, taking duality economics theory, industrial structure evolution theory, and institutional change theory as the theoretical basis, and uses various methods such as econometric analysis, quantitative analysis, and case study method to seek truth from facts.Firstly, the impact of urbanization on the income gap between urban and rural residents in the Corps is analyzed through theoretical studies on three aspects, including labor force transfer, industrial structure change, and biased policies.Secondly, based on the VAR model and the relevant data of urbanization rate, labor force transfer, industrial structure, bias policy and income gap between urban and rural residents of the Corps from 2006 to 2020,in the first place, the variable stability test is conducted, then the optimal lagging number is made, next the model is constructed for smoothness test, variance decomposition and impulse response, and the conclusions show that urbanization has a stable positive contribution to the income gap between urban and rural residents in the Corps. This positive effect appears to be rising and then falling, and is now in the falling phase, which suggests that narrowing the income gap between urban and rural residents has a significant impact on urbanization in the long run. Finally, based on the findings of the study,it provides countermeasures for narrowing the income gap between urban and rural residents in the Corps. |
