Research Of The Impact Mechanism For OFDI On China’s Manufacturing Industry’s Participation In Global Value Chain

In the context of international economic changes,China plays an irreplaceable role as the "factory of the world",and China’s manufacturing industry has made remarkable achievements in participating in the division of labor in the global value chain.However,the problem of "low end lock-in" in China’s manufacturing industry has not yet been fully resolved.As a key link in promoting high-quality economic development,OFDI is an important engine for promoting China’s manufacturing industry to participate in the division of labor in global value chains.Therefore,in the changing world pattern,how OFDI affects China’s manufacturing industry to participate in the division of labor in the global value chain is an issue that has been attracting attention from the academic community.Therefore,based on previous research results in this field,this article selects panel data of China’s manufacturing industry segments from 2004 to 2014 to explore this issue through a combination of theoretical and empirical methods.This has a very important role for China to fully grasp the opportunities for restructuring the global value chain and effectively promote the development of foreign direct investment in the manufacturing industry.This article mainly discusses this issue through six parts: The first chapter is an introduction,which details the practical and academic background,research significance,research methods,research content,and innovation and shortcomings of this article;The second chapter is the theoretical origin of this article.This chapter first describes the relevant concepts,and then sorts out the theories involved in this topic,laying the theoretical foundation for the research content of this article;Chapter 3 first describes the development of OFDI in China’s manufacturing industry,and uses the KPWW method to measure the global value chain position of China’s manufacturing industry and its segments.Then,a fixed effect model is established for empirical analysis,and the results show that OFDI in China’s manufacturing industry can promote its upgrading in the global value chain division of labor;The fourth chapter qualitatively analyzes the impact mechanism of OFDI in China’s manufacturing industry on its upgrading in the global value chain,and proposes the hypothesis that economies of scale and factor structures play a mediating role in the process of OFDI promoting its upgrading in the global value chain;Chapter 5 empirically validates the hypothesis of this article by establishing intermediary effects and grouping regression models;The main content of Chapter 6 is to summarize the research conclusions of this article and propose policy recommendations.The results of this paper indicate that manufacturing OFDI can significantly promote its upgrading within the global value chain division of labor system.However,economies of scale and factor structures play a masking effect rather than a mediating effect in the process of manufacturing OFDI promoting the upgrading of its global value chain.There is industry heterogeneity in the impact of manufacturing OFDI on the upgrading of its global value chain,with low technology and high technology industries playing a significant role in promoting,while the impact of medium and low technology industries is not significant.To this end,China should continue to scientifically guide foreign direct investment in the manufacturing industry,improve supporting measures,accelerate the construction of industrial linkages,implement a more proactive opening strategy,and form a broader,broader,and deeper opening pattern.
