With the frequent development of international economic cooperation,China has realized the importance of intellectual property rights in international competition and accelerated the pace of applying for patents from overseas countries.Nowadays,Chinese enterprises have actively carried out innovative R&D activities, continuously increased patent applications to overseas countries, and effectively increased the number of overseas patents in China.By actively submitting various patent applications in overseas countries,Chinese applicants not only expand the scope of patent rights, but also protect the rights and interests of their own intellectual achievements. The increase in the number of Chinese overseas patents not only increases the competitive advantage for China’s business activities in the host country, but also reduces the potential patent risk,so as to effectively promote China’s local direct investment activities. In recent years, the quantity and quality of China’s foreign investment have increased simultaneously, which has effectively promoted the high-quality development of China’s internationalization process and contributed to the common development of the world while opening up overseas markets. This thesis uses the data of WIPO and the State Intellectual Property Office to analyze China’s overseas patent activities and further analyze the development status of China’s OFDI.By combing the literature related to China’s overseas patent activities and outward foreign direct investment, this thesis empirically analyzes the impact of the number of overseas patents on the foreign direct investment of China. On this basis,it examines the regulatory effect and heterogeneity of the distance of intellectual property system on this impact. The research shows that the number of overseas patents has significantly promoted the outward foreign direct investment of China. The greater the distance between the host country and China’s intellectual property system, the stronger the role of the number of overseas patents in promoting outward foreign direct investment of China.Heterogeneity analysis shows that the positive regulatory effect of intellectual property system distance will vary depending on the economic development level of the host country and whether it belongs to the key countries of the global innovation system.Based on the above conclusions, this thesis believes that China should encourage enterprises to carry out transnational patent activities, strengthen overseas patent applications, and promote innovation driven development. This thesis not only enriches the relevant literature of China’s overseas patent activities, but also provides a useful reference for promoting outward foreign direct investment of China. |
