Adoption Behavior Of Farm Machinery And Its Income Increasing Effect

The No.1 document of the Central Government in 2023 proposed to comprehensively promote the revitalization of the countryside and accelerate the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.One of the manifestations of agricultural modernization is the mechanization of agricultural production."The 14 th Five-Year Plan also proposes to increase the comprehensive mechanization rate of crop cultivation,seeding and harvesting to 75%.This shows that agricultural mechanization is an important means to achieve agricultural modernization and the necessary way.The"three rural" issue has always been the top priority in China’s development and construction,and the issue of farmers’ income has always been the focus of attention in farmers’ issues,is an important prerequisite for achieving common prosperity.Therefore,it is important to study the impact of agricultural mechanization on farmers’ income to realize the organic connection between farmers and modern agriculture and to increase farmers’ income.This paper mainly addresses the following two issues:(1)the factors influencing the adoption behavior of agricultural machinery by farmers,i.e.,the problem of using or not using.(2)The impact of mechanization on farmers’ income and its mechanism of action,i.e.,the impact on income after use.To solve the above two problems,this paper adopts the research data of CFPS2018,analyzes the influencing factors of farm households’ agricultural machinery adoption behavior through Heckman model,analyzes the impact of agricultural mechanization on farm households’ income through endogeneity transformation model,and analyzes its mechanism of action using mechanism of action analysis and threshold effect model,and the main conclusions obtained are as follows:(1)In the farm households’ adoption of agricultural machinery(1)At the decision stage of agricultural machinery adoption,the difference between the cost of hired labor and machinery,other production costs,the gender of the household head as male,government subsidies,and the proportion of agricultural labor all have positive effects on the decision of agricultural machinery adoption.(2)The use of agricultural machinery can contribute to the increase of farm households’ income.The counterfactual analysis of the endogenous transformation model shows that farmers who do not adopt agricultural machinery will increase their income after adopting agricultural machinery.(3)In addition to the direct effect of agricultural mechanization on farm household income,it also has negative and positive indirect effects on farm household income through labor force withdrawal and labor force transfer.(4)The non-linear effect of agricultural mechanization on nonagricultural income,with agricultural income as the threshold variable,the effect of agricultural mechanization on non-agricultural income turns from insignificant to positive promotion when the per capita agricultural income reaches 2063.17 yuan.Based on the above findings,this paper makes the following suggestions:(1)increase agricultural machinery subsidies and improve the agricultural machinery service system.(2)To guide unadopted farm households to adopt agricultural machinery.(3)To improve the protection system for those who migrate to cities.(4)Promote the upgrading of agricultural machinery and the combination of agricultural machinery and agronomy.(5)To improve agricultural machinery technology and enhance the quality of agricultural products.
