| This study investigates the impact of the MIC2025 on Chinese FDIs in Germany and the German public’s opinion of China’s FDI orientation.Specifically, the study aims to determine whether the MIC2025 has caused changes in the direction of Chinese FDIs in the industries outlined in the strategy and to understand whether there are significant differences between German citizens’ perceptions of Chinese FDI in Germany related to the MIC2025 and those not related to it.This study uses investment data from the China Global Investment Tracker and the Statistical Bulletin of China’s Outward Foreign Direct Investment to explore the changes in Chinese FDI in Germany before and after MIC2025.In addition, this study implements quantitative empirical analysis by means of a questionnaire administered to German citizens or individuals holding German passports. The questionnaire was conducted online and a total of three hundred valid returns werecollected for data analysis. The research employs a paired sample t-test(two-tailed test)to test whether there is a significant difference between the opinions of respondents towards Chinese FDIs in industries related and unrelated to the MIC2025.This study used IBM SPSS statistical software for data analysis and hypothesis testing,as well as online questionnaire data to create graphs and tables to present public opinion. The data exploration findings show a correlation between the launch of the MIC2025,the Chinese FDI growth, and Chinese companies’ investment decisions in Germany. The results of the paired-sample t-test indicate that respondents have a positive opinion of Chinese FDI involving MIC2025 industries. The MIC2025 has influenced Chinese FDI in Germany and there are significant differences in the German public opinions related to and not related to the MIC2025.Furthermore,this study highlights the importance of considering the public opinion of the host country to effectively attract FDI.The study’s findings have important implications for policymakers and business practitioners interested in enhancing and fostering economic cooperation and FDI between China and Germany. |
