"Agriculture, rural areas and farmers" problems have always been an important factor affecting the development of our country, and the essence of the "agriculture, rural areas and farmers" problems is the development of agriculture, rural stability, and farmers’ income problems.Farmers return to their hometowns to start their own businesses is not only an important way for farmers to increase their income, but also an important way to promote the development of county economy. However, due to the lack of hard financial information and collateral,it is difficult for returning farmers to obtain corresponding financial services from banks to expand the scale of entrepreneurial projects or continue to operate when they encounter problems. In recent years,China’s economy and science and technology developed rapidly,China’s digital finance has made great progress under the support of digital technology, and is in a leading position in the world. After the G20 International Summit held in 2016,digital financial services have been raised to the level of national strategy in China, advocating the use of digital technology to improve the ability of financial system to serve the real economy.Digital inclusive finance is a new direction for the development of inclusive finance, which can effectively provide financial services to all sectors of society, thus alleviating problems such as financial exclusion. In this context, this paper adopts the survey results of China Household Finance Survey(CHFS)in 2019,and matches the 2018 provincial Digital Inclusive Financial index published by Peking University, which is lagged by one period, with CHFS data.Through the linear regression model, this paper studies the impact of digital inclusive finance on the entrepreneurial performance of farmers returning to their homevillages, and then constructs the digital participation index as the mediating variable in the reverse way of the digital divide dimension, and studies the effect of the mediating variable in the relationship between the two through the mediating effect model. After that, the heterogeneity of the impact of digital inclusive finance on the entrepreneurial performance of rural households returning to their hometowns is studied by different types of migration, different duration of migration, different entrepreneurial scale, level of education and whether they have access to formal credit. The robustness test is carried out by replacing the explained variable and the data set with the 2017 CHFS and 2016 provincial digital inclusive financial index, and then the endogeneity test is carried out by adding the instrumental variables of "Internet penetration rate" and "spherical distance between provincial capital cities and Hangzhou." Finally, the corresponding conclusions are drawn and policy suggestions are put forward to match the conclusions.Based on the empirical results, this paper draws the following conclusions.First, the result that digital inclusive finance can improve the entrepreneurial performance of farmers returning to their homevillages is still established after multiple robustness tests.Second, digital inclusive finance can improve the entrepreneurial performance of rural households returning to their hometowns by bridging the digital divide and enhancing digital participation;Third, there is heterogeneity in the impact of digital inclusive finance on the entrepreneurial performance of rural households with different types of migration, different levels of education and whether they have obtained formal credit, while there is no heterogeneity in the entrepreneurial performance of rural households with different length of migration and different entrepreneurial scale. In this regard, based on the empirical research, this paper gives the following suggestions:(1)It is necessary to further improve the coverage breadth, depth of use and digitalization of the development of digital inclusive finance, and promote the development of digital inclusive finance.;(2)Improving the ability of transfer payment in rural areas to bridge the digital divide;(3)Promoting the development of education in rural areas;(4)Improve the availability of formal finance for rural households and promote the steady and sustainable operation of rural households’ entrepreneurial projects.
