With the increasing risk factors facing the economic development of each region, economic resilience, which measures the ability of a region to withstand risks and adapt to shocks, has become a hot topic in regional economics research. However, due to the influence of many factors such as culture, history and institutions, there are great interregional differences in economic levels among regions and even among cities within regions, and the ability to withstand risks and adapt to shocks also varies greatly, which ultimately depends largely on the layout characteristics of industrial structures. At present,China is vigorously promoting structural adjustment, transformation and risk prevention in order to optimize the economic structure, and the productive service industry,as a derivative of the manufacturing industry, has gradually become the main force of economic growth and urban redevelopment. Therefore,it is of great research significance to study the relationship between industrial agglomeration and economic resilience based on the perspective of productive service industry. This paper selects panel data of 128 cities in 16 provinces and 4 cities in nine major urban agglomerations in China from 2006 to 2019,aiming to explore the mechanism of action between two different types of productive service industry agglomerations and economic resilience of urban agglomerations, and provide policy suggestions for relevant departments in China to promote industrial restructuring and improve resilience. The following are the main research contents and results of this paper.Firstly, using bibliometric analysis method,we compiled, analyzed and summarized relevant studies on the agglomeration of productive service industry and economic resilience, determined the scope of nine major urban agglomerations through conceptual combing, defined the connotation of productive service industry and economic resilience, and on this basis, constructed a theoretical framework and the mechanism of action of productive service industry agglomeration affecting economic resilience of urban agglomerations, and provided theoretical support for empirical analysis.Secondly, the entropy value method is used to construct an index system to measure economic resilience,so as to study the current development status and spatial differences of economic resilience of urban agglomerations. At the overall level, the economic resilience of each city is basically increasing year by year, and the rate of increase tends to be stable. However, according to the latest data, except for Beijing and Shanghai which are far ahead, the economic resilience level of other cities in the nine major urban agglomerations is not more than 0.6,and the economic resilience level of most cities still has a large room for improvement, which indicates that the development of China’s cities is uneven. From the perspective of city clusters, the economic toughness level and growth rate of Yangtze River Delta,Pearl River Delta and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei,as the three most influential city clusters in China, are significantly stronger than those of the other six city clusters, which indicates that there are still relatively obvious inter-city differences among city clusters.Thirdly, using fixed-effects and mediated-effects models,we study the direct and indirect effects of different agglomeration patterns of production service industries on economic resilience from the perspectives of the whole sample and the nine major urban agglomerations respectively, and the regression results show that,on the whole, both agglomeration patterns of production service industries can enhance economic resilience, and can also influence industrial structure upgrading and innovation and entrepreneurship to The regression results show that both agglomeration patterns of productive service industries can enhance economic resilience. However, from the analysis of the heterogeneity of the nine major urban agglomerations, there are still some differences among different urban agglomerations.Fourthly, using the double-fixed spatial Durbin model,we analyze the spatial spillover effects of different agglomeration patterns of productive service industries on the economic resilience of urban agglomerations. The regression results show that,at the full sample level, two different types of industrial agglomeration have significant enhancing effects on the economic resilience of both intra-regional and neighboring regions. At the level of heterogeneity of the nine city clusters,in the Yangtze River Delta and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei city clusters, the specialization agglomeration has a significant positive effect on the economic resilience of the city clusters, while the direct effect of diversification agglomeration has a non-significant negative effect;the two agglomeration patterns of productive service industries in the Pearl River Delta city cluster have a significant positive contribution to the total effect of economic resilience;the middle reaches of the Yangtze River city cluster and the Central Plains city cluster The spatial spillover effect of diversification on economic resilience is stronger in the case of diversification in the city cluster of Chengdu-Chongqing,the city cluster of Guanzhong Plain and the city cluster of Beibu Gulf, although diversification in the city cluster of Chengdu-Chongqing,the city cluster of Guanzhong Plain and the city cluster of Beibu Gulf is not significantly or even significantly negative. The diversification agglomeration in Chengdu-Chongqing,Guanzhong Plain and Beibu Gulf urban agglomerations shows a non-significant or even negative situation, but the specialization agglomeration shows a strong contribution to economic resilience.Fifthly, based on the analysis of the empirical results,we suggest suggestions for strengthening the economic resilience of urban agglomerations from several perspectives:supporting the development of productive service industries and giving full play to agglomeration advantages;promoting industrial transformation and upgrading and encouraging technological innovation;and developing urban agglomerations with special features and avoiding shortcomings to suit the needs of the agglomerations.
