| In recent years, scientific and technological innovation has increasingly changed traditional economic and financial activities. The rise of core fintech technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence and blockchain has driven the development of new financial institutions, bringing significant opportunities and challenges to traditional financial markets. For small and medium-sized commercial banks, especially urban commercial banks, how to layout fintech for innovation and upgrading and whether related innovation can bring the expected economic effects are urgent issues to be solved. This paper systematically expounds the definition and development process of fintech,as well as the factors affecting bank efficiency and risk taking, and analyzes the impact of fintech on economic development, enterprise development, bank efficiency and risk taking from the theoretical level.Literature research and empirical analysis are mainly adopted. In the empirical part, the data of 19 urban commercial banks from 2011 to 2020 are selected as the research samples, and combined with the technology spillover theory, the impact of fintech on the efficiency and risk taking of Chinese urban commercial banks is studied and discussed. The basic research ideas are as follows:Firstly, based on the review of existing literature, the relevant concepts, development process and impact of fintech are introduced closely around the research theme;Secondly, based on the existing theoretical mechanism and research results, starting from the aspects of fintech’s impact on the profitability, operating efficiency and risk control of city firms, the possible impact of fintech on the efficiency and risk of city firms is analyzed and hypothesized.Thirdly,on the basis of theoretical analysis, the impact of fintech on the efficiency of city firms is tested empirically. In addition, the intermediary effect model is used to test how fintech affects the behavior of city firms and thus the risk-taking mechanism of city firms.By changing the measurement method of variables and grouping the sample data of banks, this paper studies whether fintech has a heterogeneous impact on the impact of fintech development on commercial banks in cities of different sizes. The research shows that the development of fintech can improve the efficiency of city firms. The absorption of fintech technology spillovers by city firms helps them to enhance their risk management capabilities, thereby inhibiting the increase in risk taking levels. The impact of fintech on city firms is mainly reflected in the debt side, asset side and intermediate business of banks. The reduction of intermediate business income, lending interest rate and net interest margin can inhibit the risk taking of city firms. |
