Based on Conservation of Resources Theory and the Broaden-and-build Theory of Positive Emotions, this paper adopts the data collection method of experience sampling methodology to explore the mediating mechanism and boundary conditions of the influence of micro-breaks on employee creativity. The results show that:Firstly, daily micro-breaks have a significant positive impact on daily employee creativity.Secondly, daily positive emotions play a mediating role between daily micro-breaks and daily employee creativity.Thirdly, daily cognitive liveliness not only plays a direct mediating role between daily micro-breaks and daily employee creativity, but also can be mediated by daily positive emotions. In other words, daily micro-breaks can also have a positive impact on daily employee creativity through a chain transmission mechanism from daily positive emotions to daily cognitive liveliness.Fourthly, psychological empowerment negatively moderated the relationship between daily micro-breaks and daily employee positive emotions,as well as the indirect effect of daily micro-breaks on daily employee creativity through the daily positive emotion path and the chain mediation path from daily positive emotions to daily cognitive liveliness. In other words, the above relationship was stronger for individuals with low level of psychological empowerment. The conclusions of this paper not only enrich the relevant research on micro-breaks in the workplace, but also inspire enterprise managers to pay attention to the rest situation of employees in the workplace and ensure the recovery effect of their emotional and cognitive resources in the rest process,so as to effectively improve their creativity level. |
