Against the background of implementing the rural revitalization strategy and promoting the integrated development of urban and rural areas, the relationship between urban and rural areas in China has been greatly improved. As a crucial component in this integration, transportation infrastructure has a direct or indirect impact on urban-rural relations, thus facilitating urban-rural integration. Therefore,by exploring the existence, mechanism, and effect of the impact of transportation infrastructure investment on the level of urban-rural integration, relevant policy recommendations are proposed based on theoretical and empirical analysis results. The goal is to optimally allocate transportation infrastructure investment between urban and rural areas and therefore to improve the level of urban-rural integration. The impact of transportation infrastructure investment on urban-rural integration is quite complex.Based on the reference to relevant studies by domestic and foreign scholars, this study elaborates on the connotations of urban-rural integration and transportation infrastructure investment and then conducts in-depth research from theoretical and empirical perspectives.First,in the part of theoretical analysis, this paper systematically combs the theory of urban-rural integration, agricultural multi-functionality theory, growth pole theory, transportation Economic Belt Theory, and Investment Theory, and reviews the relevant literature at home and abroad.Second,in the part of the impact mechanism analysis, based on the relevant theories and the characteristics of transport infrastructure investment, this paper attempts to explain the impact of transport infrastructure investment on different levels of urban-rural integration from the theoretical level.Third,in the part of empirical analysis, taking Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration as an example, and constructs the evaluation index system of transport infrastructure investment level and the evaluation index system of urban-rural integration development level of the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration based on the actual development of the urban agglomeration and relevant policies. The entropy weight method(EWM)is used to measure its correlation level. The measurement results show that the transport infrastructure investment distribution is uneven, and the development level of elements and social integration is low,Therefore,in order to stimulate the positive impact of transport infrastructure investment on the overall level of urban and rural integrated development of the urban agglomeration, this study builds a panel model,,and the panel regression is carried out by combining static and dynamic panel estimation. The main conclusions are as follows:First, transportation infrastructure investment has a two-way impact on the level of urban-rural integration, and the growth rate of transportation infrastructure investment in the lagging period still has a positive impact on the level of urban-rural integration in the current period,.Second, transportation infrastructure investment plays a significant role in promoting the overall level of urban-rural integration by facilitating the integration of urban and rural industries and societies.Third, the increase in investment in transportation infrastructure will further widen the income gap between urban and rural residents, thus inhibiting the rise of the level of urban-rural economic integration and hindering the process of urban-rural integration.Based on the main conclusions of this study, relevant policy recommendations are proposed from four aspects:emphasizing the planning of transportation infrastructure investment, strengthening the investment in transportation infrastructure in urban and rural areas, expanding effective investment in transportation infrastructure, and improving the service efficiency of transportation infrastructure. It is evident that only by promoting integrated development of urban and rural areas at all levels can the overall level of urban-rural integration be improved. |
