An Empirical Analysis Of The Effect Of The Trade Policy And The Divergence Evolution Of The Trade Pattern On China And Japan Medical Device Products

The new crown epidemic has swept the world,and people’s demand for and attention to medical device products has also increased.Japan has a stable comparative advantage in the export of medical device products,while China is just the opposite.In order to better explore the reasons for the comparative advantage of Japan’s export of medical device products,this paper uses the trade data of Japan’s import and export of medical device products from 1976 to 2020 and China’s medical device products from1987 to 2020 from the UN Comtrade.The three variables of “net export ratio” 、“revealed comparative advantage” and “trade pattern deviation propensity index”respectively examine the evolution of the trade pattern deviation of China-Japan medical device product exports,and carry out Granger causality for the three basic indicators of RX,HX,and HM conducted.The purpose is to clarify the relationship between the trade policies and policy interventions implemented by China and Japan and the comparative advantage of export of medical device products,and to provide suggestions for improving the comparative advantage of China’s medical device products and better adjusting trade policies.The author believes that a country’s trade protectionist policies may not directly enhance their comparative advantage,but we still cannot ignore the role of policy intervention.Under the background of the normalization of epidemic prevention and control,China needs to pay attention to the development of the medical device industry,learn from Japan’s experience in the development of the medical device industry,and enhance the comparative advantages and international competitiveness of China’s medical device products.To this end,we can start with scientific and technological innovation and increase investment to enhance the comparative advantages of China’s medical device products;from the reference to the level of medical device technology standardization and supervision mode in developed countries to adjust the development structure of China’s medical device industry,improve relevant regulations;from the direction of adjusting policy intervention,pay attention to the development of medical device upstream and downstream industries,achieve the solid competitiveness of medium technology products,and then focus on supporting the export of medical device products.The development and improvement of the medical device industry and the improvement of the comparative advantages of medical device products depend on the accumulation of factors,technological progress and the positive policy intervention of the government,which is a long-term process.
