Social enterprises can help governments and commercial enterprises solve the problem of market failure,and they have the dual logic of economy and society.Competing with traditional commercial enterprises in the same market,they need to continuously innovate business models to achieve higher economic performance,so that they can better serve social goals.However,in the process of business model innovation,social enterprises will face the risk of mission drift.At present,the research on the phenomenon of mission drift of social enterprises focuses on the exploration of single factors and shallow single case studies,which are insufficiently integrated with the business model innovation process,and there are gaps in the combination of research factors.By studying the process of business model innovation of case companies,this paper focuses on the factors that lead to mission drift of social enterprises,and uses qualitative comparative analysis methods to construct conditional paths of factor combinations to help social enterprises avoid the phenomenon of mission drift.First of all,this paper organizes relevant domestic and foreign literatures,combines the practical background,and completes the theoretical foreshadowing in the literature review part.Secondly,this paper conducts indepth research on two social enterprise cases,extracts four antecedent variables,and uses mission drift as the outcome variable.Finally,this paper uses the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method to analyze the conditional path,to explore the cause path leading to mission drift and mission balance,and obtain two cause-condition combinations leading to social enterprise mission drift and two cause-conditions leading to social enterprise mission balance combination.After a comprehensive analysis of the combination of four causes and conditions,this paper draws the following conclusions: first,social enterprise mission drift is the result of the combined action of multiple factors;second,low internal legitimacy is a necessary condition for social mission drift;third,institutional environment is crucial for social enterprises to balance social logic and market logic.This paper puts forward practical suggestions to Chinese social enterprise: first,social enterprises should actively explore more ways to obtain external legitimacy through multiple channels;second,the government should explore a reasonable social enterprise incubation mechanism and an accurate assistance mechanism.Relevant departments should pay attention to external resource and fund providers,carefully assess the degree of mission drift risk,and rationally choose partners and external capital;fourth,enterprises should actively build internal legitimacy,pursue better internal governance structure and unified values. |
