| To increase farmers’ income and expand farmers’ consumption is an important measure to solve the issues concerning agriculture, countryside and farmersissues of agriculture, farmer and rural area in China, break through the current situation of insufficient domestic demand, realize rural revitalization, and then realize the healthy and sustainable development of economy. To promote urbanization and improve the efficiency of agricultural land use is not only helpful to improve the level of farmers’ welfare and promote the healthy development of the national economy, but also the only way to build an economic power.Considering that China is in the stage of rapid urbanization, but there are still unbalanced and inadequate regional economic development, farmers’ welfare can not be guaranteed,so it is still of great theoretical and practical significance to discuss how to improve the level of farmers’ welfare through urbanization and agricultural land use efficiency.Firstly, this paper analyzes the mechanism of population urbanization, land urbanization and agricultural land use efficiency on farmers’ income and consumption from the perspective of theory.Secondly, this paper selects farmer’s per capita income and farmer’s per capita consumption to represent farmer’s welfare level, population urbanization rate and land urbanization rate to represent urbanization level, and land production rate to represent agricultural land use efficiency, and constructs spatial Dubin econometric model based on economic geographical distance. Finally, based on the provincial panel data from 2005 to 2019 of 30 provinces in China, this paper empirically tested the differences in the impacts of urbanization and farmland use efficiency on farmers’ welfare level according to the income molecule samples of the eastern, central and western regions. It also discusses whether there is population and land urbanization in the east, central and western regions and how it affects farmers’ welfare level through the use efficiency of agricultural land as an intermediary variable. The results show that :(1)The impacts of population urbanization on farmers’ welfare are spatially heterogeneous. For the eastern region, the promotion of population urbanization is conducive to the improvement of farmers’ welfare, while for the western region, the promotion of population urbanization is not conducive to the improvement of farmers’ welfare. And in both the richest and poorest provinces, promoting urbanisation is good for farmers’ well-being.(2)The impact of land urbanization on farmers’ welfare is spatially heterogeneous. For the eastern, central and richest regions, promoting land urbanization is conducive to the improvement of farmers’ welfare level, while for the western region, promoting land urbanization is not conducive to the improvement of farmers’ welfare level.(3)Improving the efficiency of agricultural land use and improving land output are conducive to the improvement of farmers’ welfare level in each province or region.(4)From the perspective of spatial spillover effect, the influencing mechanism of population urbanization, land urbanization and agricultural land use efficiency is complex, and the sign direction is uncertain. In particular,in the spatial effect decomposition in the eastern region, population urbanization, land urbanization and agricultural land use efficiency all negatively affect the farmers’ welfare level in neighboring provinces.(5)In central China, land urbanization has a positive impact on farmers’ per capita income through land use efficiency, and in western China, population urbanization has a negative impact on farmers’ per capita consumption through land use efficiency. Finally, based on the analysis of the above empirical results, this paper puts forward the following policy recommendations :(1)The eastern region actively created integrated development of industries, and the central and western regions ensured the subsistence of farmers.(2)Improve the efficiency of agricultural land use, improve agricultural modernization, and better release the dividends of land system reform.(3)Establish regional policies for urbanization development. |
