Since the reform and development,China’s rapid economic development and social transformation have led to dramatic changes in the habitat and quality of life of urban and rural residents. However, behind the improvement of material environment, the rationalization and undifferentiated spatial processes continue to deconstruct the traditional meaning of habitat, deprive residents of their spiritual attachment and emotional connection with place, and eventually lead to the confusion and disorder of individual self-concept.In this context, sojourners have become a social group that cannot be ignored in order to seek a state of fit between self-concept and local meaning across space. Then, how does the relationship between the self-concept of sojourners and the meaning of place actually present itself? What are the rules they follow in the whole process of sojourning? What is the essential pursuit of sojourners reflected in the relationship between the two?All these questions need to be further explored.Based on the existing theoretical foundation, this study takes the Tibetan drifters in Lhasa,a group of sojourners,as the research object, and uses a combination of semi-structured interviews and field observations to explore the temporal and spatial changes and interaction patterns of the Tibetan drifters’ self-concept and interpretation of local meaning. The objectives of the study are as follows:firstly,to explore the performance state of Tibetan drifters’ self-concept and local meaning interpretation in the process of sojourn and to clarify the interaction pattern between them;secondly,to analyze the essential features and core pursuits of the interactive interpretation process of Tibetan drifters’ self-concept and local meaning in terms of the evolution of the relationship between self-expression and local meaning in the whole process;thirdly,to clarify the interactive interpretation of Tibetan drifters’ self-concept and local meaning in the context of different stages.Third,to clarify the impact of the interaction between Tibetan self-concept and local meaning in different stages. In order to achieve the above objectives, the study adopts the following technical route:firstly, the 273,415-word interview data from 45 Tibetan drifters are analyzed to obtain the stage performance status of the interpretation of self-concept and local meaning;secondly, the 124,912-word online text is analyzed by using content analysis method to verify the analysis results of the rooting theory;finally, based on the above results, the interaction process, evolution pattern and local influence of the two are analyzed. Finally, based on the above results,a comprehensive analysis of the interaction between the two, evolutionary laws and local influences is conducted, and the following conclusions are drawn.(1)Tibetan drift’s self-concept and local meaning interpretation interact with each other and have obvious stage characteristics.(1)Tibetan drifters’ self-concept and local meaning interpretation interact with each other, and have obvious characteristics of stages:(1)Mismatching period-the pursuit of self-truth with "poetic place" as the core;(2)Fitting period-the production of local meaning with the pursuit of "(2)Tibetan drifters’ self-concept and local meaning production;and the selection periodself-adjustment with multiple values as the demand.(2)The interactive interpretation process of Tibetan drift’s self-concept and local meaning reflects the contemporary people’s continuous search for real meaning, and it manifests itself in different stages as reflection on self-truth,experiential truth and value truth.(3)The development and evolution of Tibetan drift’s interpretation of self-concept and local meaning show a value turn from inward to outward, specifically manifested as self-balance-communication learning-altruism supplementation and renewal.(4)The interactive interpretation process of self-concept and local meaning indirectly influences the development direction of the settlement through the behavioral expression of Tibetan drifters, and the specific expression of this influence at different stages shows the characteristics of transformation from consumption to production. The conclusion of this study has certain theoretical value and practical significance.Theoretically:(1)a model of the interactive interpretive relationship between Tibetan drifting self-concept and local meaning is constructed, and an extrapolation trend of the shift of the focus of sojourners’ life from self to friends, family and place is proposed;(2)the change of driving forces in the evolution of sojourn system is explored, and the dominant theory of place in previous studies is supplemented, that is,in the absence of the subject and the shift of self-concept,the self-related factors on the sojourn system influence on sojourn systems may be significantly higher in the absence of the subject and the shift in self-concept.(3)The study further clarifies the meaningful performance of sojourn activities for individuals and interprets the value of sojourn activities with three concepts of self-authenticity,experiential authenticity, and value authenticity. In terms of practice, the study explores the evolution of the demands of the sojourners and explores their cognitive and behavioral misconceptions at different stages, thus providing suggestions for the sojourners to improve their lifestyles;in addition, the study provides new ideas for community management to balance the demands of the sojourners and resolve the conflicts of the sojourners, and ultimately tries to contribute to the sustainable and distinctive development of marginalized ethnic places. In addition, the study provides suggestions on the shared characteristics and place-making behaviors of the sojourning groups.
