In recent years, the use of information technologies in the construction industry, such as BIM,big data, and artificial intelligence, has created conditions for the industry to move away from its traditional extensive development model and toward sustainable development. The EPC general contracting model is a widely used construction method for engineering projects around the world, and its share of the construction industry is steadily growing. The incorporation of BIM technology into EPC projects is an trend in order to realize information management and improve the level and efficiency of project management. However, the application of BIM technology in EPC projects is hampered by numerous obstacles and competing interests of the participants, and the integrated development of the two is still in its early stages. As a result,it is critical to investigate the barriers to BIM application in EPC projects,as well as the stakeholder game relationship,in order to realize the development of BIM technology in EPC projects. In this thesis, the current state of BIM technology application in EPC projects was examined, and 14 barriers to BIM application in EPC projects were summarized based on literature review and expert interviews.According to the social network analysis, the high BIM costs, not obvious BIM economic benefits, lack of support from government and industry authorities, cognition barriers to BIM value,BIM external effects reduce participants application enthusiasm,BIM data sharing security issues are the six key barriers.Based on stakeholder theory, the governments, the owners, and the general contractors were determined the core stakeholders of BIM application in EPC projects, and the interaction of interests between the three parties in BIM application was analyzed.A tripartite evolutionary game model was constructed based on the mutual game between the key obstacle factors of BIM application and the core stakeholders. The evolutionary stability strategy was solved and analyzed, and the sensitivity analysis of the key obstacle factors was carried out using MATLAB numerical simulation. The findings show that: the interactive behavior of participants influences the choice of BIM application strategy in EPC projects;moderate subsidies aid the evolution to an ideal tripartite stability strategy;high penalties for low-level BIM application accelerate the evolution to an ideal ESS;general contracting businesses are more sensitive to the potential losses caused by BIM application problems;and general contractors more sensitive to possible damages from BIM sharing security concerns;the positive externalities generated by BIM application have a great impact on the widespread application of BIM.The strategies for encouraging the use of BIM for the government, owners, and general contractors were presented based on the study of the above results. The governments can formulate BIM-related laws and standards, encourage BIM research and development work, and set reasonable BIM subsidies. They can formulate penalty mechanism, impose fines on companies that fail to implement BIM work in accordance with detailed standards, and regularly publish a list to play a warning role. The owners enforce BIM delivery standardize, strengthen process supervision, pay attention to the timeliness and incentive methods of BIM incentives. The general contractors improve employees’ BIM professional ability, change their thinking modes, pay attention to the application of BIM in the whole life cycle of the project to improve its incremental income. The promotion of BIM in EPC projects is promoted by multiple parties,so as to realize the collaborative management of engineering projects and maximize the overall benefits of the projects, thereby driving the stable development of informatization in my country’s construction industry.
