| In 2014,The State Council promulgated the "Implementation Opinions on Deepening the Reform of Examination and Enrollment System"([2014] NO.35),which on behalf of the opening of the new college entrance examination reform.By 2023,29 provinces in China have implemented the new college examination reform in five rounds. This reform mainly focuses on comprehensive evaluation, subject setting, admission mechanism and other issues, among which the admission mechanism mainly has two modes of "specialtygrouping parallel application" and "profession-oriented parallel application model".So,how does the new admission mechanism affect the quality of students in universities? Is there a rule of these affects? What is the mechanism behind it?This study takes two new reform provinces,Zhejiang Province and Shandong Province,as the research subjects. The admission data of Zhejiang Province from 2014 to2022,and the admission data of Shandong Province from 2017 to 2022 were collected from the official website of Provincial Education Examination Institute.Firstly, based on the two-way fixed-effect model,we analyzed the admission status and annual trend of different levels of universities, different subject types of universities, and different subject categories in two provinces under the background of "profession-oriented parallel application model".Secondly, based on rational choice theory and identity-related theory,we compiled the questionnaire on Students’ Preference Status under the "Profession-oriented Parallel Application Model" to explore the main factors influencing the quality of students in universities and their effects under the new college entrance examination. Finally, this paper discusses the influencing mechanisms for the "profession-oriented parallel application model" on student quality and then puts forward some policy suggestions. In this study, through the two-way fixed-effect model and the analysis of influencing factors,we found that:(1)the effect of "profession-oriented parallel application model" on the quality of students in different types of undergraduate universities has a significant "Matthew effect";(2)this "Matthew effect" has strong heterogeneity among different provinces, different types of schools and different disciplines;(3)the effect of "professionoriented parallel application model" on the quality of students in universities is the result of the interaction of multiple factors. The mechanisms among the influencing factors for the quality of students in universities include the dominant mechanism of policy, the fair mechanism of individual interest, the stratification mechanism of college strength, and the market-oriented mechanism of social demand.Based on this, the recommendations of this study are as follows:(1)the propaganda and interpretation of the policy should be strengthened and then which can give full play to the intrinsic value of the policy;(2)students’ career planning education should be strengthened which in order to correctly cultivate students’ individual interests;(3)the construction of disciplines and specialties should be attached importance to improve the comprehensive strength of colleges and universities;(4)the layout of disciplines and majors should be reasonable which in order to correctly respond to changes in market demand. |
