Purpose:This study took male college students majoring in basketball as the research object.By comparing the changes of lower limb biomechanical characteristics when the knee joint of the subjects completed the side-step cutting under the conditions of kinesio taping, placebo taping and blank control,it explored the influence of kinesio taping on the lower limb biomechanical characteristics during the side-step cutting. In order to provide theoretical basis and practical reference for the application of protective means of lower limb sports injury.Methods:Thirty-nine male college students majoring in basketball from Tianjin University of Sport who met the experimental conditions were recruited as subjects. Each subject was tested under three conditions: Kinesio Taping(5m*5cm Kinesio professional tape imported from Japan),placebo taping(medical non-woven tape with the same color as Kinesio tape)and no taping(blank control). The mechanical correction method was used to taping the dominant knee joint of the subject. The run-up speed of(5±0.5)m/s was selected to complete the 45° side-step cutting task for testing. In this study,Qualisys three-dimensional motion capture system,Kistler dynamometer and Noraxon surface electromyography test system were used to collect kinematics, dynamics and muscle activation data of subjects during side-step cutting. With SPSS27.0 software to a single factor test data repetitive measure analysis of variance, all parameters results in mean±standard deviation((?)±SD)said that significance level for P<0.05.In this study, the Graph Pad Prism8.0 software was used to process data graphics.Results:1.The effect of Kinesio Taping on kinematic indexes of lower limb joints during side-step cutting.(1)Initial Contact: Statistically significant differences were found in the abduction Angle of hip joint(F=7.168,P=0.001)and valgus Angle of knee joint(F=7.590,P<0.001).Compared with no taping and placebo taping,Kinesio Taping significantly reduced hip abduction Angle(P=0.002,P=0.016)and knee valgus Angle(P<0.001,P=0.004)at initial contact time. There was no significant difference between no and placebo(hip abduction P=0.163,knee valgus P=0.262).(2)Peak time of Lateral Ground Reaction Force: The comparison of different LGRF methods at peak time showed that hip abduction Angle(F=8.985,P<0.001),knee flexion Angle(F=6.269,P=0.003),valgus Angle(F=4.798,P=0.011),ankle plantar flexion Angle(F=5.599,P=0.005)were statistically significant.Compared with no taping and placebo taping, kinesio taping significantly reduced hip abduction Angle(P<0.001,P=0.005),knee valgus Angle(P=0.010,P=0.016)and ankle plantar flexion Angle at peak LGRF time(P=0.004,P=0.013).There was a significant increase in knee flexion Angle(P=0.004,P=0.009),but no significant difference between no and placebo(hip abduction P=0.326,knee flexion P=0.458,knee valgus P=0.406,ankle metatarsal flexion P=0.658).2.The effect of Kinesio Taping on the dynamic parameters of lower limb joint during side-step cutting.(1)Initial Contact: Statistically significant differences were found in the abducting(F=5.717,P=0.005),external rotation(F=3.949,P=0.023)moments of hip joint,valgus(F=8.756,P<0.001)and external rotation(F=11.108,P<0.001)moments of knee joint at the initial contact time.Compared with no taping, both kinesio taping and placebo taping significantly reduced hip abduction(P=0.006,P=0.010),external rotation(P=0.018,P=0.021),knee valgus(P=0.002,P=0.001),external rotation(P=0.002,P<0.001)torque,but there was no significant difference between kinesio and placebo(hip abduction P=0.691,external rotation P=0.748,knee valgus P=0.914,external rotation P=0.172).(2)Peak time of Lateral Ground Reaction Force: No statistical difference was found in flexion, adduction and internal rotation moments of hip joint,flexion,internal/eversion and internal rotation moments of knee joint, dorsiflexion, varus and internal/external rotation moments of ankle joint(P>0.05)compared with the LGRF peak moment of different binding methods.(3)Peak of three-dimensional Ground Reaction Force: VGRF(F=7.0043,P=0.002),LGRF(F=2.830,P=0.049)and PHGRF(F=6.994,P=0.002)showed statistical differences among different taping methods.Compared with no taping, the peak value of VGRF(P=0.001,P=0.049)and the peak value of PHGRF(P=0.002,P=0.009)were significantly reduced by both kinesio taping and placebo taping, but there was no significant difference between kinesio taping and placebo taping(P=0.071,P=0.211).Compared with no taping and placebo taping, kinesio taping significantly reduced the peak LGRF(P=0.046,P=0.031),but there was no significant difference between no taping and placebo taping(P=0.967).3.Effect of Kinesio Taping on activation of lower limb muscles during side-step cutting. There were significant differences in the muscle activation rates of vastus medialis muscle(F=3.392,P=0.039),biceps femoris muscle(F=3.202,P=0.046)and semitendinosus muscle(F=7.661,P<0.001).There was no significant difference in muscle activation of rectus femoris, lateralis femoris and gastrocnemius(P>0.05).Compared with no taping, kinesio taping significantly increased the activation rate of vastus medialis(P=0.028)and biceps femoris(P=0.025),but there was no significant difference between kinesio taping and placebo taping(vastus medialis P=0.109,biceps femoris P=0.063).Kinesio taping application significantly increased the activation rate of semitendinosus muscle(P=0.001,P=0.001).Conclusion:1.Kinesio taping of the knee joint improves some kinematic indexes(Including increasing knee flexion Angle, decreasing valgus Angle, decreasing hip abduction Angle, etc),Partial dynamic index(Including the reduction of knee valgus, external turning moment and lateral ground reaction force peak),and electromyographic(Such as medialis muscle, semitendinosus muscle, biceps femoris increased activation)associated with lower limb injury risk factors during side-step cutting. It is suggested that kinesio taping may have a positive effect in preventing the occurrence of injury during side-step cutting.2.The knee placebo patch was able to improve some of the dynamic index associated with lower limb injury risk factors at the completion of the side-step cutting, including reduction in knee valgus, external rotation moment and peak vertical ground reaction force at the moment of initial contact, which is consistent with the trend of the kinesio taping in this area, suggesting a possible placebo effect on the mechanism of action of the kinesio taping.
