Social and Emotional Competence refers to a series of skills that children develop during the processes of understanding and managing emotions,setting and achieving positive goals,experiencing and expressing empathy towards others,establishing and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships,and making responsible decisions,which is crucial for children’s lifelong development.Sports and games have unique advantages in promoting children’s social-emotional development because they are fun,rule-governed,competitive,and cooperative.By integrating social-emotional education into sports and games,children’s social-emotional abilities can be developed in a subtle way during these activities.Previous research has shown that kindergarten children are in a critical stage of transition from early childhood to social development.Based on a summary of relevant research results and in accordance with the requirements for social development of children in large classes in China’s pre-school education guidelines,this study designed and implemented a set of sports games activities integrated with social-emotional education,aiming to examine the impact of sports games integrated with social-emotional education on the social-emotional abilities of children in large classes.The study selected76 children from two large classes in a kindergarten to participate in the experiment,and conducted ten teaching experiments with the experimental group of children.Before and after the experiment,the children’s emotional understanding ability,peer communication ability,social skills,and interpersonal problem-solving ability were tested,and their behavioral performance was observed and recorded.The results of the study were analyzed and discussed quantitatively and qualitatively.The research findings show that,compared with the control group,after conducting the physical games integrated with social-emotional education,the experimental group of preschoolers had significant improvement in Social and Emotional Competence:emotional understanding ability increased significantly,and they demonstrated better emotional regulation and self-control ability;peer interaction ability further developed,with improvement in initiative and verbal and nonverbal communication;social skills were enriched,with significant improvement in self-control and initiative dimensions,and more prosocial behaviors were displayed;interpersonal problem-solving ability was enhanced,with more use of positive problem-solving strategies.This study provides research evidence for the positive impact of physical games integrated with social-emotional education on the social-emotional abilities of preschoolers in a large classroom and proposes the following educational recommendations: attach importance to the value of sports games,capture educational opportunities;select sports game content,create situations to infiltrate education;strengthen peer interaction,improve children’s social emotional ability;improve teachers’ professionalism,improve sports game environment resources,etc.
