Thanks to the rapid development and reform of China’s sports,China’s marathon has gradually changed from an unpopular sports activity with few people involved to multi-city competition, popular; From formidable athletic barriers to nationwide fitness programs...according to public data, the marathon in our country has received widespread attention and participation from the public, both the number of matches and the number of participants has increased rapidly. It can be seen that the marathon has gradually changed from an elite event to a sport for all with the characteristics of expanding the coverage of the age range, low entry threshold, and diversified events. In line with the vigorous development of the marathon across the country, the number and frequency of female runners in China are on the rise.Although the proportion of female marathon runners has been increasing year by year, both the frequency of female marathon runners and the proportion of female marathon runners are lower than those of men. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find out the difference of the influence factors of the different sex through the comparative analysis of the influence factors between males and females,to explore the answer to the following three questions: the impact of the intention to participate in China’s marathon events, the differences of marathon participation intention between different gender groups in China, the reasons for participating in China’s marathon events, and the fact that the organizers of the sex ratio are facing the situation that the proportion of female marathon participants is too small, what should be done to improve the situation. The significance of this study lies in the hope that by exploring the factors that influence the intention to participate in marathon events, more calls on people to respond to the call of the national "national fitness program",to improve the economic benefits of marathon events, and to improve the social understanding of women’s participation in sports,it also provides management advice to the government and marathon organizers. This study adopts a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis.First of all, combing the research status of the theory of planned behavior and its application in the field of sports, domestic and foreign research on the influencing factors of marathon participants ’ behavior, several pieces of literature on the academic exploration of gender differences in sports;secondly, according to the theory of planned behavior, gender theory and feminist sports theory, taking the social groups who know about the marathon as the research object, this paper establishes the structural equation model of the influencing factors of different gender marathon participants ’ participation intention. The establishment of the initial model is based on five latent variables: subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, participation attitude, participation intention, and traditional gender concept. The data of the verification model comes from the questionnaire of influencing factors of participation intention of marathon events in China compiled by this study.According to the requirements of establishing the structural equation model, the reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and other analysis methods are adopted for the scale. On this basis,a qualified structural equation model is established to further explore the influencing factors of male and female marathon participation intention and the differences between different genders.According to the research data and analysis in this paper, the main conclusions are as follows:(1)Perceived behavioral control has a significant positive impact on marathon participation intention. When individuals clearly know the risk of the event, have a higher degree of trust in the event, and have sufficient confidence in their physical endurance, they will improve their intention to participate in the race, thereby affecting their participation behavior and increasing the frequency of participation in the marathon.(2)Participation attitude plays a fully mediating role between subjective norms and participation intention, while it plays a partial mediating role between perceived behavioral control and participation intention.(3)There is no significant correlation between traditional gender concepts and women’s participation attitude and intention. There may be two reasons for this result:on the one hand,China’s current participation in mass sports has gradually shown a trend of equality, and the traditional gender concept of the domestic public, especially women, has been improved;on the other hand, most of the respondents in this study have a high level of education, and the gender concept tends to be equal.(4)Subjective norms and perceived behavioral control have different impacts on men and women. In terms of participation attitude, the influence of perceived behavioral control on male participation in marathons is greater than that of subjective norms, and the influence of subjective norms on female participation in marathons is greater than that of perceived behavioral control.According to the statistical analysis and research results in this paper, the main suggestions are as follows:(1)Pay attention to the impact of subjective norms on women’s participation attitude, pay attention to the widespread dissemination of marathon ideas. Both in policy and in inculcating the idea of daily life,we should encourage more women to participate in sports and have a positive and positive attitude towards women’s participation in sports.(2)The public’s perceived behavioral control of marathon events will largely affect their own intention to participate in the race and then affect their participation behavior. Therefore,it is necessary to enhance the public’s perceived behavioral control of the marathon, strengthen risk awareness and stimulate positive emotional attitudes.(3)Marathon organizers should take targeted policy measures to solve the problem of gender imbalance in the event and expand the market of Chinese female marathon runners.Such as simplifying the registration process, reducing the registration cost, improving the emotional sustenance of women in the event, fully considering the special factors of women ’ s physiology,so that women are more willing to participate in the marathon.
