| Approach-Avoidance Motivation is a motivation oriented to the pursuit of positive outcomes and the avoidance of negative ones.In schools,Approach-Avoidance Motivation intersects with Academic Motivation and has an impact on students’ creative thinking.Having good creative thinking is an important sign of mental health,and creative thinking is also the highest expression of humanmental function.In schools,Creative Thinking is strongly linked to academic achievement,and to some extent Creative Thinking positively predicts students’academic achievement.Therefore,the study was conducted to investigate the applicability of the "Approach-Avoidance Temperament Questionnaire" developed by Elliot and Thrash in 2010 to junior high school students in China.On this basis,we describe the current status of Trait Approach-Avoidance Motivation of junior middle school students and use this questionnaire as a screening tool to experimentally investigate the effect of Trait Approach-Avoidance Motivation on their creative thinking.Finally,Trait and Contextual Approach-Avoidance Motivation were matched to explore the effect of matching or not on Creative Thinking.The results of the study are as follows:(1)The revised "Approach-Avoidance Temperament Questionnaire"has good reliability and validity,and is suitable for this study.(2)Middle school students’ Trait Approach-Avoidance Motivation was at a moderate level,with significant individual differences.There were significant grade differences in Trait Approach-Avoidance Motivation among middle school students.There were significant grade level differences and gender differences in Trait Approach-Avoidance Motivation among middle school students.Boys had significantly higher levels of Trait Approach Motivation than girls,while girls had significantly higher levels of Trait Avoidance Motivation than boys.(3)Trait Approach Motivation positively predicts creative thinking in middle school students,and Trait Avoidance Motivationn negatively predicts creative thinking.(4)Matching of Trait Approach-Avoidance Motivation with Contextual Approach-Avoidance Motivation did not exactly positively affect creative thinking.Matching of trait convergent motivation with Contextual Approach-Avoidance Motivation did not exactly positively affect creative thinking.Only the matching of Trait Approach-Avoidance Motivation with Contextual Approach-Avoidance Motivation can promote the influence of creative thinking.This study incorporates Trait Approach-Avoidance Motivation into the study of the effects on creative thinking of middle school students.In terms of theory,we investigated the applicability of the Temperament Avoidance Questionnaire,investigated the current situation of Trait Approach-Avoidance among junior middle school students,and continued to expand the content and depth of Trait Approach-Avoidance research based on the previous work.In practice,experimental evidence of the effects of Trait and Contextual Approach-Avoidance on Creative Thinking provides a degree of reference for educators on how to stimulate and develop creative thinking for middle school students with different motivational tendencies. |
