| The greatest philosopher of ancient Greece-Plato(Plato,Πλατ?ν,427 BC-347 BC),he proposed that "movement builds character".In his thoughts on sports,it is shown that sports and aesthetic education are inextricably linked,so that the function of sports is not only to strengthen the body and maintain health. At the same time, the educational view he advocated is also a classical and speculative educational view.Although, his educational thoughts have certain personal and era limitations. However,it is not difficult to see that many of his content on education are rich and profound, and still have a profound impact on the enlightenment value of modern education. This paper researches and discusses Plato’s sports thought through the method of literature, logic analysis and other methods.Systematically sort out Plato’s personal life and the historical background of sports thought. It discusses the core content of Plato’s sports thought in different periods in the early, middle and late periods. The study found that his sports thought started from the education of defenders of city-state rule, and while focusing on military sports,he was able to integrate sports and music.Although he believes that the soul is more superior than the body,he also emphasizes that the education of a complete person is equal to sports and music. The education of sports is not the care of the body, but the pursuit of the harmonious state of the soul.Only in this way can we achieve morality, wisdom, health and happiness, and perfect physical and spiritual development. In sports, dance has gained more attention from Plato. In sports practice, according to age and gender differences, the content and methods are adjusted differently to meet the principle of individual differences, and at the same time pay attention to women’s participation.Based on this, this paper summarizes five core contents including Plato’s all-round development of sports thought, integration of music and sports, sports thought of gender equality, principle of moderate exercise, and lifelong sports thought.Secondly, since Plato was born in the decline period of the Athens city-state,it was the decline of Athens that inspired his thinking on human education, especially on physical and mental education, which had an important impact on later generations. Finally, from the aspects of sports ethics, leisure sports, physical education, etc.,the modern enlightenment of Plato’s sports thought is discussed, which provides a theoretical reference for promoting the development of modern sports thought and culture. |
