The Impact Of Internet Use On Individual Social Interactions

Since the 21 st century,the rapid development of Internet information technology has profoundly changed the way of dissemination and communication of information.Human society has entered the information age based on digital and microelectronics,making the time structure of the social cycle and the relatively stable space structure have undergone subversive changes.The Internet has brought profound,long-term and comprehensive impacts on social production and life.Since the access to the Internet in1994,Internet information technology in China has developed continuously,and along with the development of industrialization,it has been deeply integrated with all aspects of social development.It has not only changed the political ecology,social psychology and economic development methods,but also reconstructed the production relations,cultural relations and social interaction.This study focuses on the impact of Internet use on individual social interaction,using CGSS2017 data for empirical research.A binary Logistic regression model was established,in which the individual social interaction was taken as the explained variable,and further dividing it into two dimensions: the individual interaction behavior and the emotional experience,and Internet use was taken as the explanatory variable and further divides it into three dimensions: Internet use frequency,Internet use proficiency and Internet information acquisition ability,and demographic characteristics and geographical characteristics were taken as control variables.And use OLS model to test the data.The findings show that,overall,Internet use has a positive impact on individual social interaction.From the perspective of individual social interaction behavior,Internet use can increase the frequency of individual social interaction and broaden the scope of individual social interaction.The main reasons are that Internet use can reduce the difficulty of individual social interaction,realize the "pan-connection" between individuals and enable social interaction to be activated and liberalized.From the perspective of emotional experience of individual social interaction,Internet use can enhance the intimacy of individual social interaction and enhance individual happiness.The main reasons are that Internet use can bring multiple interactive experiences,meet the diverse interactive needs of individuals and establish the third-party trust relationship based on platform.In contemporary society,the Internet is not only a part of social life,but also social life often can be successfully completed with the help of the Internet.This study verified the positive impacts of Internet use on individual social interactions,but also noticed its negative impacts.For example,it is necessary to carefully treat its negative impact on individual emotional experience and avoid psychological problems;treat online information carefully and avoid falling into Information Cocoon and Echo Chamber Situation;be cautious about the disappearance of "nearby" and pay attention to "nearby" as horizon.However,this study still has its limitations.First,it attaches importance to the social interaction of individuals and fails to explain the interaction between individuals and the social system.Second,limited by secondary data,the changes of individual social interaction are only examined from two aspects of individual interaction behavior and emotional experience.Third,using data from 2017,it is not possible to examine changes in individual social interactions from a dynamic and diachronic perspective.
