Social anxiety is an emotional feeling that individuals experience in social situations,mainly with discomfort such as nervousness,worry,and fear.Junior high school students are in their early adolescence,and the development and changes in their physical and mental health make them more prone to experiencing anxiety and avoiding social interaction,which not only affects their learning and exercise in interpersonal communication,but also is not conducive to the normal development of mental health.This study aims to investigate the current situation of social anxiety among junior high school students,explore the relationship between social anxiety and irrational beliefs,and develop a group counseling program based on rational emotional therapy to intervene in junior high school students with social anxiety,hoping to alleviate their social anxiety.This study is divided into two parts.The first part of the study is to use the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents" and the Irrational Belief Rating Scale for Middle School Students to test 376 students from a junior high school in Xinzhou City,in order to understand the current situation of social anxiety and irrational belief levels of junior high school students,the differences in demographic variables between the two,and the relationship between the social anxiety and irrational beliefs.The second part of the study was based on the voluntary principle of selecting 20 students with high scores on the Social Anxiety Scale and the Irrational Belief Scale,and randomly dividing them into an experimental group(10 people)and a control group(10 people).The experimental group received the intervention of a group counseling program designed based on the theory of rational emotional therapy.The control group did not receive any intervention during the period and studied normally.After the experiment,the data of the two groups were compared,Explore the effectiveness of interventions.The results are as follows:(1)The level of social anxiety among junior high school students is generally normal,and some students suffer from social anxiety;There are differences in social anxiety among junior high school students in terms of gender,student origin,and single parent families,but there are no differences in terms of only children;There are differences in irrational beliefs among junior high school students in single parent families,but there are no differences in other aspects.(2)There is a significant positive correlation between irrational beliefs and social anxiety among junior high school students.Regression analysis shows that irrational beliefs can significantly predict social anxiety in a positive way.(3)The level of social anxiety and irrational beliefs in the experimental group were significantly improved after group intervention.This indicates that the group counseling program designed based on rational emotional therapy is effective in alleviating social anxiety among junior high school students.
