Research On The Governance Of High Bride Price In Rural Areas From The Perspective Of Social Capital

After the report of the 19 th CPC National Congress,China vigorously implemented the rural revitalization strategy,among which the rural civilization as the cultural deposits of the rural revitalization strategy is an important guarantee for the implementation of the strategy.But in reality,in many rural areas of our country,the problem of high price or even sky-high price of bride price has caused a series of bad effects,which has become a difficult problem of rural customs civilization construction.The state attaches great importance to this,and has repeatedly proposed in the No.1 document of the Central government to promote the transformation of rural customs and carry out the special rectification of high-price bride price.But even after the country made it clear that it was resisting high betrothal prices,the phenomenon has not eased in many areas.The reason and how to effectively governance can not help but cause the author to ponder.Therefore,based on the quantitative and qualitative research methods,combined with social capital theory and rational choice theory,this research takes T village in South Shanxi as the research object,and comprehensively understands the development status of high bride price and the different types of "asking pricepayment".Then,the paper makes an in-depth analysis of the causes of the phenomenon of high bride price,shows the current situation of rural society under changes through the measurement results of social capital stock in the village,analyzes the formation mechanism of high bride price under this influence,and examines the rational and irrational factors.Finally,the paper analyzes a series of consequences caused by the phenomenon of high bride price caused by the limited rational behavior to the macro level,forms a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon of high bride price and finds the breakthrough point of governance.The study found that the high bride price trend in T village was obvious,and the behavior choices of both male and female parents promoted the high bride price,which was embodied in three main types: active payment type,follow the crowd type and active striving type.From the perspective of social capital,the analysis of the causes of high bride price found that in rural society in the transition period,the capital stock of village network was insufficient,the network was relatively closed,the loss and lack of nodes were serious,and the connection between nodes was rational,which promoted the internal competition,structural imbalance and materialization trend in the marriage market.The stock of reciprocity in village area is insufficient,and the stock of special reciprocity is abundant.The change of ownership right of bride price and the support of social resources provide the impetus for their asking and payment.The lack of universal reciprocity provides the impetus for the operation of the "asking price-payment" system.The village trust stock is general and the general trust is insufficient,which forms the internal mechanism of the girl’s parents’ asking price.The special trust is internalized to form the internal mechanism of the male’s parents to pay;The deterioration of institutional trust has formed an internal mechanism for villagers to comply with high betrothal price in order to avoid governance risks.The lack of normative capital stock in village areas is manifested as imperfect norms and low normative effectiveness,which leaves room for the operation of high betrothal gifts.In order to avoid the pressure of public opinion and the failure of face-saving competition,villagers make high asking price and payment behavior.A further examination of individual behavior reveals that the formation of high betrothal gifts not only involves rational considerations based on environmental impact and personal situation,but also involves many irrational factors.Therefore,under the joint action of village social capital stock and individual limited rational behavior of individuals during the transition period,the phenomenon of high betrothal price is formed in the reality transformation of the push,pressure and power basis,internal mechanism and cultural situation in the marriage market.It is also the limitation of rationality that leads to a series of negative consequences on the individual,family,village and even national level caused by the phenomenon of high bride price.Therefore,the author proposes to take into account the dual factors of human and environment,take multiple subjects as the core,and start from improving the stock of social capital in the village to effectively govern the phenomenon of high bride price,so as to make a powerful exploration for the construction of rural civilization.
