The Compulsory Education Mathematics Curriculum Standards(2022)state that mathematics teachers should focus on the effective integration of information technology into mathematics teaching and learning. At present, mathematics teachers and students in secondary education still face many problems in improving teaching methods and independent learning using information technology in order to promote the effective integration of information technology in the teaching and learning of mathematics in secondary education. This study analyzes the current status of the integration of information technology and mathematics education in elementary schools and the existing problems in the integration process, and makes recommendations for promoting the effective integration of information technology and mathematics education in elementary schools.A literature review, questionnaires, interviews, and lesson observations were conducted with 350 students and 241 mathematics teachers in three elementary school in Lanzhou to investigate the current situation of the integration of IT and mathematics education in elementary school and the existing problems in the integration process. The results of the research are as follows:The integration of information technology in secondary mathematics education can be mainly seen from the following three aspects:(1)It is good for teachers to use information technology to create situations and enrich teaching scenarios, but the use of network resources is insufficient, and the use of special mathematical software and intelligent terminals to conduct mathematical experiments and mathematical investigations is low;teacher-student interaction, online assessment and class participation are good in online teaching, and in the online and offline hybrid online teaching mode of teachers, teachers can use big data to analyse learning situations, but the use of information technology to achieve personalised teaching is insufficient.(2)Teachers can pay attention to students’ self-learning and provide learning resources, but lack the initiative to use information technology to promote students’ self-learning;(3)Teachers are relatively good at developing and using PPT lectures and dynamic images, but lack the development of learning resources for students, and lack the awareness of participation in the development and use of information technology and network resources. The main problems related to the integration of IT and mathematics education at the secondary level are(1)the integration of IT and education is not deep enough and formalized enough and the use of IT is singular;(2)students’ initiative to use IT for independent learning and their awareness to actively use IT,for example,in pre-course reading, course post-course revision, inability to use online digital platforms for selfmonitoring and evaluation,(3)inadequate development and use of IT resources, outdated web resources, lack of development skills, lack of knowledge of IT use, which are(3)inadequate development and use of IT resources, outdated web resources, and lack of support for development of digital resources for students’ mathematics learning.Based on the analysis of the current situation and problems, the following recommendations are made to promote the effective integration of ICT in lower secondary mathematics education:(1)teachers should improve their own information literacy and balance the relationship between coursework and independent practice, optimize and improve strategies for the application of IT in mathematics education, and increase the depth of integration enhance;focus on developing students’ awareness and ability to use IT for independent learning;focus on digital(2)Students will increase their information literacy, use IT in a rational way,and improve their initiative to use IT for independent learning.(3)Schools should enhance the development of digital learning environments, provide teachers with adequate IT training opportunities, and guide them to emphasize the learning and use of IT.
