| Mathematical problem solving ability is an essential ability that students must have in the process of learning mathematics, and its level is an important form of outward expression of one’s mathematical literacy.Understanding the current level of students’ mathematical problem solving ability can effectively develop students’ scientific thinking and logical rigor, help students learn knowledge independently as well as creatively, and also promote the development of students’ mathematical ability. In this paper, the content of trigonometric functions is used as a carrier to study the problem solving ability of senior students.First of all,the test paper was carefully prepared.Based on the SOLO classification theory,we constructed an evaluation framework for students’ problem solving ability in trigonometry, analyzed the questions in the last five years from different perspectives, and used them as the basis for preparing test papers to investigate students’ problem solving ability,in which the number of knowledge points tested in the test papers and the questions in the trigonometry exams were the same, and the difficulty of the questions in both tests was basically the same according to the constructed evaluation framework.Second, the types of errors in the test papers were carefully grouped together.Based on the classification of the types of solving errors, the errors made by students in the process of solving the questions were counted and analyzed, and a case study of the students’ solving process in the test paper was conducted.Third, the statistical analysis is carried out reasonably. The survey data were compiled and the students’ problem solving ability levels were statistically analyzed, and the variability of students’ problem solving ability levels among schools of different levels(Level 1,Level 1,Level 2,and Level 1,Level 3),between White and other ethnic groups, and the correlation between the students’ usual grades and emotional and attitudinal values were analyzed. Finally,a representative student case correction study was conducted. Two representative students were selected for a case correction study based on the majority of students’ problem solving ability levels and the types of problem solving errors that occurred, and the effectiveness of the correction test was assessed. It was found that the level of trigonometric problem solving ability of senior students was average, and students’ problem solving ability did not differ between White and other ethnic groups, but there were significant differences between schools of different grades, and correlated with both students’ usual grades and students’ affective attitudes and values. The main factors affecting students’ problem solving ability were students’ low classroom efficiency, lack of good study habits and selfreflective ability.Based on the analysis of the problem solving errors, case correction was carried out,and after assessing the correction,it was found that case correction was effective and case correction was an important way to improve students’ problem solving ability. |
