The incidence of depression among college students has been increasing year by year.If early depression among college students is not effectively intervened,it may aggravate their depression and even lead to negative campus events. The state and society attach great importance to this issue. The "Exploration of Depression Prevention and Control Service Work Program" issued by the National Health Commission proposes to increase intervention efforts for key groups such as college students.Social workers,as an important part of the psychological intervention team, can make their due contributions to the prevention and control of depression among college students. This study takes college students with depressive symptoms as the research object and uses quasi-experimental research methods in schools to explore the effect of collective narrative on relieving depression among college students and the effectiveness of social work intervention. In Study One,24 college students with depressive symptoms were selected through voluntary enrollment and recommendation by the school’s psychological center, and were divided into experimental and control groups, with 12 students in each group. The experimental group received seven interventions, each lasting 90 minutes, while the control group received no intervention. The results showed that after intervention, the total score of the SDS scale in the experimental group decreased compared to the pre-test,and the difference was significant, while the difference in the total score of the SDS scale between pre-test and post-test in the control group was not significant. That is to say, after intervention, the difference in the total score of the SDS scale between the experimental group and the control group was extremely significant due to the experimental treatment. In addition, qualitative research showed that the experimental group’s depressive symptoms were relieved after the intervention, further demonstrating the effectiveness of narrative-oriented group work intervention. The purpose of Study Two was to explore the effectiveness of narrative therapy interventions in social work.Collective narrative has long-term effectiveness in relieving depression among college students.A follow-up evaluation of the depressive symptoms of the two groups of college students was conducted three months after the intervention. The results showed that the change in the total score of the SDS scale in the experimental group was significantly greater than that in the control group.Qualitative evaluation of the follow-up revealed that group members were able to apply the knowledge they learned to improve their negative emotions, further demonstrating the long-term effectiveness of narrative-oriented group work intervention. This study provides an intervention method that can be used as a reference to alleviate depressive symptoms among college students. Two main conclusions were drawn: Firstly, collective narrative therapy can effectively alleviate depressive symptoms among college students.Secondly, social work intervention can enhance the effectiveness of narrative therapy and have long-lasting effects. In summary, social workers can use collective narrative therapy and leverage their professional advantages in social work to alleviate depressive symptoms among college students.
