Guangzhou’s cavalcade architecture is a unique architectural style and street feature,and is an important expression of Guangzhou’s local culture,as well as Lingnan culture.At present,it also has to face the problems of demolition and reconstruction,protection and heritage.This paper explores the origins,development,architectural features,humanities and historical values of Guangzhou’s Riding House architecture and uses it as an art teaching resource for the development and application of a high school art appreciation course.The aim is to make full use of the excellent teaching resources of Guangzhou’s local culture-Guangzhou Riding House Architecture-on the basis of the requirement of "cultural understanding" in the core qualities of high school art,to summarise,analyse and conclude its aesthetic value in detail,and to use the humanistic view of education as the theoretical basis for the establishment of an art appreciation curriculum with a humanistic perspective.The theoretical foundation,the establishment of a high school art appreciation curriculum with the cultural characteristics of Guangzhou’s local region as the goal,the stimulation of interest,rational judgement,communication and evaluation,and cultural understanding as the guiding principles of teaching,and the student-oriented principle,the principle of comprehensiveness,and the principle of locality as the principles of application,are used in the study of teaching design.The aim is to arouse local students’ emotions towards local culture through the rational use of local cultural art resources,to enrich the teaching materials of the art course through local cultural art resources,to broaden the teaching ideas of the high school art classroom,so as to make better use of local cultural art resources,to stimulate modern high school students to pay attention to local culture with artistic eyes,and to realise and use local culture in the high school art appreciation class.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part of the paper is divided into five parts.The first part provides a comprehensive analysis of the background and significance of this study,clarifies the purpose and methodology of the study,and summarises the current state of research at home and abroad to provide a theoretical basis for this study.In the second part,the origins,development and artistic characteristics of Guangzhou’s cavalcade architecture are analysed;in the third part,the current situation of teaching Guangzhou’s cavalcade architecture in high school art is investigated and analysed;in the fourth part,the ideas of using Guangzhou’s cavalcade architecture in high school art appreciation courses are investigated from three aspects: theory,principles and teaching steps;in the fifth part,a case study of teaching Guangzhou’s cavalcade architecture in high school art appreciation modules is presented.The fifth part is a case study and summary of the use of Guangzhou Cavalcade Architecture in senior secondary art appreciation module.Through the use of Guangzhou Riding House Architecture in the senior secondary art appreciation curriculum,students are helped to develop the idea of looking at local culture through the lens of cultural understanding and to generate some reflection on the living environment between historical buildings and modern buildings.The intention is to make full use of the excellent art education resources in local culture and to adapt to local conditions to promote the holistic development of high school students.
