Proportional reasoning is an important subject of children’s cognitive development, which plays an important role in children’s future development in the field of mathematics and science. As a key mathematical ability in early childhood, patterning ability as one potential precursor of proportional reasoning ability.Many-to-one corresponding plays a certain role in the connection between patterning and proportional reasoning, but there is a lack of empirical research to support the relationship between the three, especially in early childhood. This study discusses the relationship between patterning and proportional reasoning, introduces many-to-one corresponding variable to investigate deeply its role in the relationship between patterning and proportional reasoning,so as to provide support for promoting the development of children’s early proportional reasoning. In this study,240 children aged 5-6 years old were randomly selected from 12 large classes of three public kindergartens in K city. The research mainly uses the test method to investigate the development of patterning ability,many-to-one corresponding ability and proportional reasoning of children aged 5-6,and discusses the relationship between patterning ability and proportional reasoning and the role of many-to-one corresponding ability in the relationship between them. The results show that:1.The repeating patterns ability of children aged 5-6 is better than growing patterns ability; In repeating pattern tasks, pattern extending activity performs best, followed by pattern translating and pattern identifying activities. In growing pattern tasks, pattern translating activity performs best, followed by pattern identifying and pattern extending activities.2.In many-to-one corresponding tasks, children performed better in equal group tasks than in building block tasks;Children’s physical level tasks are better than non physical level tasks in both task types.3.In proportional reasoning tasks, children performed better in the task of the mixed tasks than in the task of fairing-sharing;In the mixed tasks, children performed better in the continuous task than in the discrete task, and in the fairing sharing tasks, children performed better in the DD tasks than in the DC tasks.4.5-6 years old children’s patterning ability,many-to-one corresponding ability and proportional reasoning ability have significant positive correlations.Children’s patterning ability has a significant predictive effect on their proportional reasoning, among which repeating patterns ability has a strong predictive effect on proportional reasoning, especially repeating patterns translating activity, and repeating patterns ability has a strong predictive effect on fair sharing-DD tasks, while growing patterns ability has a strong predictive effect on fair sharing-DC tasks;Patterning ability also has a significant predictive effect on many-to-one corresponding ability, among which repeating patterns has the strongest prediction, especially repeating patterns indentifying activity;Many-to-one corresponding ability has a significant predictive effect on proportional reasoning, among which the predictive power of building blocks corresponding tasks are strong, especially building blocks corresponding to non physical tasks.5.Many-to-one corresponding ability of children aged 5-6 plays a partial mediating role between their patterning ability and proportional reasoning ability, which the building block corresponding tasks play a partial mediating role between between them, among which the mediating effect of building blocks on non physical level tasks are relatively strong; The tasks of building blocks corresponding play a partial mediating role between repeating patterns and fair sharing-DD tasks, growing patterns and fair sharing-DC tasks.Based on the above research conclusions, the researchers put forward the following suggestions:first, developing children’s patterning ability comprehensively and emphatically to promote the development of children’s early proportional reasoning: guiding children to pay attention to the structure of repeating patterns, appropriately increase children’s learning experience of growing patterns, and pay attention to the process of solving patterning tasks;Second, gradually guiding children to understand manyto-one corresponding relationship, promote the development of children’s early proportional reasoning;Third, promoting the development of many-to-one corresponding ability with patterning ability, and gpromoting the development of children’s early proportional reasoning. |
