In today’s world, where modern and traditional attitudes are playing together, the phenomenon of abortion among university students is extremely insidious, even though it is on the rise. Not only does abortion lead to reproductive health problems, but it also causes great psychological trauma and mental burden for university students. The shame and fear of discrimination caused by the loss of chastity often prevents the victim from seeking help, which in turn prevents the victim from receiving timely attention and care from society, leading to the internalisation of the trauma and even posing a risk to social stability. Therefore,it is important to find ways to help this group to reduce their trauma. In this study, the author uses the narrative therapy method to study and discuss this issue, taking Xiao A from a university in Anhui Province as the intervention target. As a new paradigm in social work practice, narrative therapy treats people as life "experts" and helps them reconstruct their life stories through storytelling, problem externalisation, reconstruction and reinforcement.Based on its professional values, the author attempts to apply narrative therapy to abortion trauma services for school students, with the aim of exploring the effectiveness and appropriateness of narrative therapy interventions for abortion services for school students. In the study, the author adopts a case study approach, conducts in-depth interviews with Xiao A’s students and collects data. The findings and professional reflections of this study are presented. After studying and analysing the client’s service process,it was found that: firstly, the narrative therapy approach can,to a certain extent, heal the psychological trauma caused by abortion, alleviate the sense of powerlessness caused by the dominant culture, stimulate a sense of self against the dominant narrative and strengthen the sense of self-identity.Secondly,narrative therapy has the advantage of empowering the client, fitting in with traditional Chinese culture, and achieving social work self-help.Thirdly,narrative therapy also has limitations such as the difficulty of measuring its effects and the professional requirements for both social workers and clients. Therefore,in future services, there is a need to further promote the process of localisation of narrative therapy and strengthen sex education for university students.
