The integration of information technology and education has become an overwhelming trend, starting from the primary level and basic subjects such as mathematics. The use of dynamic geometry software to restructure the mathematics teaching process and optimise the design of teaching activities is a key part of the integration of IT and mathematics teaching, and is also an important tool for improving the quality of classroom teaching and developing students’ imagination and observation skills. It is also an important tool for improving classroom teaching quality and developing students’ imagination and powers of observation.Based on relevant theories, the article first identifies the advantages of Geo Gebra over other dynamic geometry teaching software in teaching graphics and geometry, and defines the dimensions and levels of spatial concepts assessment based on the new curriculum and relevant literature. This paper then attempts to design the use of Geo Gebra in four stages: "pre-learning-exploring new knowledge-consolidating and improving-summarising".The basic process of using Geo Gebra to improve students’ spatial concepts in mathematics is designed and applied to test the effectiveness of the process in a specific teaching design. In this pilot study, students from two parallel Year 5 classes at a school in Honggu Tan,Nanchang,Jiangxi Province, were selected for the experiment. After implementation, the effectiveness of using Geo Gebra to design teaching activities to develop students’ spatial concepts was determined based on the collection, collation and analysis of data and interviews with randomised students. The results of the study showed that students’ spatial concepts improved across all dimensions and levels, and that the satisfaction survey on the use of Geo Gebra in primary mathematics classrooms showed that students’ academic interest, motivation and learning outcomes improved considerably, with the most significant improvement in learning outcomes.Further analysis showed that students were more interested in participating in the hands-on process of Geo Gebra and were interested in the variation of inquiry activities in the discovery of new knowledge. In conclusion, this study designed Geo Gebra-supported activities and general processes for teaching spatial concepts, which not only have some practical application in primary school mathematics teaching, but also have some theoretical reference significance for the current process of reconstructing mathematics teaching activities. |
