The Evolution Of English Football Rules In Victorian Era

Modern football was born in the Victorian era in England,and as an important vehicle of cultural imperialism,it spread globally along with the colonial expansion of the British Empire;the rules of modern football were originated in British public schools,that were participate and formulate by public school students,and then inherited and innovated.From the perspective of history and sports,and on the basis of using a large number of original materials such as archives documents,this paper aims to examine the origin,development and evolution of modern football rules in Victorian England,focusing on the historical transmutation of modern football rules in England grow out of nothing,from multiple to unified,from spontaneous to rational.Then discusses the medieval football without rules,the preliminary establishment of football rules in the public school era,and the further development of football rules in the unified era,focusing on the historical background,motivation and influence of the evolution of football rules.Finally reflects on the cultivation and construction of humanistic sportsmanship in school football under the awareness of rules and others from the reality of China.This paper consists of an introduction,a text,a conclusion and a revelation,of which the text consists of three parts.The first part focuses on the development of folk football before the rules come into being in medieval.It is found that the earliest records of English football began in the Middle Ages,and although its development was constrained by various realities such as the medieval social environment and religious ideology,the various indigenous informal football games invented and played in England,which followed some of the basic movements and rules,were the unique forms that form the basis of modern football.In addition,the game of football in this period was mainly popular among civil society groups,and there were no clear and explicit rules to define it,and it usually existed in various forms,in a chaotic and disorderly stage.The second part examines the emergence of a sense of rules in Victorian football and the initial establishment of the rules in public school as a whole.As an important source of the birth and development of modern football,the English public school was a representative force in the early development of football,and its orderly development led football away from "barbarism and violence" and other radicalism,and showed the direction for its civilization and modernization.At the same time,the public school,as a "living fossil of education",is a model for the development of school soccer everywhere,its talent training mechanism is a model for the cultivation of reserve players,and the creation and establishment of its rules is a blueprint for the innovation of uniform rules of modern football.The third part focuses on the evolution of modern football rules from pluralism to unification and analyzes the impact of unified rules on the game system.One of the important symbols of the birth of modern soccer is the unification of rules,from the initial creation of rules by public schools to unify intra-school and inter-school competitions,to Cambridge University’s innovation of the highly differentiated public school rules and attempts to codify standardized rules,to the British Football Association’s unification and simplification of various rules,the sport of soccer,along with the various competitions organized by clubs,has further expanded and completed the transformation from amateurism to professionalism and commercialization,and metamorphosed The game has transformed from amateurism to professionalism and commercialization,and has become a worldwide sport of global attention.From nonexistence to pass into existence,from multiple to unified,from spontaneous to rational,from disorderly competition to rules negotiation,from arbitrary to scientific,the development of rules of modern football has gone through the following stages: 1.the chaotic and disorderly medieval no rules stage;2.the localized public school initial rules stage.3.the negotiated and collegial association unified rules stage.The English public school environment nurtured the germination of football rules awareness,and the unification of football rules contributed to the construction of the modern tournament system.Throughout the whole evolution of English football rules,it is deeply related to the development of British social relations,the changes of social structure and the track of class struggle in the same period,which is a microcosm of the changes of British social structure.
