After the release of the " General High School Chinese Curriculum Standards " in 2017,the implementation of the core literacy of the Chinese subject and group learning tasks have become the focus of research in the field of Chinese teaching.Despite this,traditional high school Chinese reading classes are still dominated by teacher-led instruction and fail to capture students’ interest.This approach conflicts with the principles of autonomy,cooperation,and inquiry advocated by the new curriculum reform.Project-based learning,which places students at the center of their learning experience and emphasizes problem-solving,high-level thinking skills,and the mobilization of knowledge and abilities,is an innovative and effective approach to high school Chinese reading teaching.By combining project-based learning with high school Chinese reading teaching,teachers can promote active learning and cultivate core literacy in students.In this paper,we use a literature review,case analysis,and classroom observations to study the feasibility and necessity of project-based reading teaching in high school Chinese classes.Based on previous research,we propose three design types for project-based reading teaching: single project reading,unit project reading,and cross-unit project reading,and put them into practice.Our observations and reflections show that project-based reading teaching can effectively improve students’ reading interest and volume,although challenges such as long project times,student cooperation issues,and difficulties in monitoring extracurricular activities still exist.To address these challenges,we provide four dimensions of suggestions for implementing project-based reading teaching:correcting teaching concepts,realizing teaching objectives,integrating reading texts,and designing reading activities.Teachers must correct their teaching concepts,provide timely help,efficiently achieve reading goals,and gather the strength of collaborative groups.They should also integrate reading selections according to teaching content,and design reading activities that promote students’ language expression.
