| "Model building" is an important way of thinking in physics learning.Model building plays an important role in students’ conceptual learning and development of scientific thinking."Learning progression" is the process that learners learn knowledge about a certain topic within a certain time span and go deeper step by step.By organically integrating "model building" and "learning progression" and using model building to teach the progression of physics concepts,we can effectively promote the synergistic development of students’ conceptual understanding and model building ability.This paper integrates the developmental hierarchy model of learning progression with the developmental hierarchy model of model building,proposes a theoretical framework of conceptual learning progression scaffolded by model building,and designs an instructional design model.On the basis of this model,a specific teaching case is designed for the content of "magnetic field" in high school,and a teaching practice is conducted in a high school in Kaili,Guizhou Province.Through teaching practice and data analysis of pre-test and post-test papers,some meaningful conclusions were drawn:First,high school students follow a step-by-step progression in concept learning,and students’ weak cognitive ability makes it difficult to establish a core concept system,and model-construction-based physics concept learning progression teaching can effectively promote students’ physics concept integration development.Second,the teaching effect of model-building-based physics concept learning progression is significantly better than that of traditional teaching.A one-way ANOVA of post-test scores showed that there was a significant difference between the two classes,F(1,80)=11.34,p<0.01,with students in the experimental group performing significantly better than the control group.Further,a chi-square test was conducted using the progression level of different physics concepts as the dependent variable and class classification as the independent variable,and the results showed that more students in the experimental class were able to understand the physics concepts correctly and reach the higher conceptual level compared to the control class,proving that the teaching in this study was effective.Third,the advanced teaching of physics concept learning based on model building can improve the students’ model building thinking level more than the traditional teaching.By analyzing the response ideas of some post-test questions,students in the experimental class were more capable of using model thinking for knowledge transfer and problem solving in new situations. |
