Compared with words and symbols,physics graph has the advantage of being visual and intuitive.In recent years,the middle school physics curriculum standard has strengthened the emphasis on graph,and the examination of graph in the college entrance examination has also increased,which putting forward new requirements for graph application ability of students.Therefore,it is of great significance to evaluate graph application ability of students.This study will take physics electrical function graph as an example to evaluate graph application ability of students.In this study,the theoretical framework of function graph application ability is constructed,and it is divided into three aspects: graph reading ability,graph composition ability and graph use ability.On this basis,the electrical function graph application ability test with good reliability and validity was compiled with reference to the authoritative scale.And 123 high school sophomores from T City,Zhejiang Province were tested.Based on the test results,the students’ performance and existing problems in different ability dimensions are analyzed.The research conclusions are as follows:First,the ability of students to apply electrical function graph is average.Comparing the ability of the three dimensions,the performance of students’ graph reading ability is the best,the performance of students’ graph composition ability is the second,and the performance of students’ graph use ability is the worst.Second,students have problems in the graph reading ability,graph composition ability and graph use ability.In terms of graph reading ability,the main problem for students is confusion about the function graph elements,and that they are not clear about the physics meaning of certain function graph elements.In terms of graph composition ability,students have difficulty composing graph based on words.The bad performance in graph composition ability is affected by the the bad performance in graph reading ability.In addition,there are many irregularities in the process of students’ independent composition.In terms of graph use ability,affected by the mind-set,most students lack the awareness of using graph.Besides,the lack of composition ability also adversely affects students’ ability to use graph.Based on the problems in graph reading,graph composition and graph use ability,this study further puts forward three teaching suggestions: to deeply explore the physics meaning of function graph elements,standardize students’ composition process,and cultivate students’ awareness of actively using graph to solve problems.It is expected that the study can provide reference for the graph teaching process.
