A rapidly changing society needs leaders. With the accelerating process of globalization, informatization, democratization and marketization, all countries in the world have realized that training talents with leadership is an important way to enhance national and regional competitiveness.Leadership is the long-term influence to make oneself and the society better. It is the ability to lead oneself and influence and drive others. It is not only about personal growth, but also about the future of the country and the society.Studies have shown that the acquisition of adult leadership can be predicted by earlier behaviors. Therefore,it is of great significance to study the development of leadership in high school students who are closest to adults. The development of students’ leadership is not only influenced by personality traits, family environment, social support and other factors, but also directly or indirectly influenced by participation in extracurricular activities.Based on this, this study will explore the influence of extracurricular activity participation on high school students’ leadership, focus on the mediating role of peer relationship, and establish the influence mechanism among extracurricular activity participation, peer relationship and high school students’ leadership.First of all, through literature review, this study constructs a theoretical model of how extracurricular activity participation affects high school students’ peer relationships and further improves their leadership.Based on the model, this study proposes research hypotheses, adapts existing scales, and adjusts and corrects the scales based on actual measurement results, making the formal questionnaire more realistic. This study mainly uses a questionnaire survey method to evaluate 876 high school students in T city,S province.SPSS.20 and AMOS.26 are used to test the reliability and validity of the questionnaire,as well as empirical analysis.According to the research content, some teachers and students are selected for interviews to supplement the results obtained from data statistics. The main findings of the study are as follows:(1)High school students have strong teamwork skills, but weak performance in communication and leadership;High school students have a high level of emotional participation in extracurricular activities, but a relatively low level of behavioral participation;High school students generally have good peer relationships.(2)There are significant differences in senior high school students’ leadership in terms of grade, the nature of their high school(non key high school and key high school),whether they serve as class leaders, parents’ educational level, and whether they participate in leadership related courses and activities, but no significant differences in gender, school location, children alone and academic performance;Participation in extra-curricular activities by upper secondary school pupils varies considerably according to the level of school, the nature of the upper secondary school and the experience of class teachers.;There are significant differences in peer relationships in class cadre experience and mother’s cultural level.(3)After excluding the effects of demographic variables such as grade, the nature of the high school(non key high school and key high school),whether to serve as a class cadre, and the educational level of parents, the regression analysis results show that extracurricular activity participation and its sub dimensions have a significant positive predictive effect on senior high school students’ leadership; The sub dimensions of extracurricular activity participation and emotional participation can significantly positively predict peer relationships;Peer relationships also have a significant positive predictive effect on senior high school students’ leadership.(4)Peer relationships play a significant and partial mediating role between extracurricular activity participation and senior high school students’ leadership, with an indirect effect accounting for 19.5%.Based on the above research conclusions, this study proposes the following three suggestions: First, enrich the content of extracurricular activities, and create a main front for practicing high school students’ leadership.Under the premise of ensuring students’ normal participation in extracurricular activities,it is necessary to enrich the forms of extracurricular activities as much as possible, not only making full use of resources within the school, but also actively mobilizing resources outside the school, strengthening the connection with social resources, and providing a stage for students to better understand and develop themselves;Secondly, pay attention to the emotional experience of secondary school pupils participating in extracurricular activities, and create a good atmosphere for students’ self-realization.In order to enhance the emotional experience of high school students in extracurricular activities,on the one hand, schools need to fully respect the dominant position of students, allowing them to fully develop in self-management and self-organization.At the same time,it is also necessary to guide students to establish positive peer relationships in cooperation and healthy competition; Finally, students should focus on their individual growth and strengthen their understanding of their own leadership.Schools should strengthen guidance for students’ self-planning,enable them to continuously understand their own strengths and strengths, form self-concepts,develop leadership potential, and promote leadership development.
