| The improvement of human capital quality is of great value in driving the growth of contemporary social economy.Increasing investment in children’s education can not only increase future family income, but also improve labor productivity. The widening difference in educational expenditure between families is likely to become an important cause for intergenerational transmission of poverty, solidifying social stratification and exacerbating social inequality. The role of medical insurance in promoting consumption has also been widely recognized by the academic circles.Based on this, this paper discusses the effect and mechanism of multi-level medical insurance system with basic medical insurance as the main body and other forms of supplementary medical insurance and commercial health insurance as the supplement on the household education expenditure of children.Based on the micro database of China Household Finance Survey(CHFS)in2015,this paper discusses the effect and mechanism of multi-level medical insurance on the household education expenditure of children.Firstly, this paper analyzes the possible influence mechanism based on theoretical basis and puts forward four research hypotheses, and OLS regression is used for empirical analysis and heterogeneity analysis.Secondly, the endogeneity issue is solved through propensity score matching method and treatment effect model, and the robustness check are also carried out. Finally, the possible influence paths are further discussed by using mediation effect model and moderating effect model.According to the empirical analysis, the paper puts forward corresponding policy suggestions. The main conclusion are as follows:(1)Compared to families with only basic medical insurance, families with multi-level medical insurance significantly promote the household education expenditure of children;(2)In addition to having basic health insurance, commercial health insurance has a significant positive impact on the household education expenditure of children, while critical illness insurance has no significant impact on that;(3)There is group heterogeneity in the influence of commercial health insurance on the household education expenditure of children has group heterogeneity, and the positive impact is mainly reflected in the families with no hospitalized members,no medical liabilities, high income and trust in commercial insurance,or in urban areas;(4)Commercial health insurance can promote children’s education expenditure by reducing the risk aversion of families, and this mediation effect is only significant in families with no hospitalized members,no medical liabilities and no education liabilities,or in urban areas;(5)The positive effect of commercial health insurance on children’s education expenditure will be affected by family health status, and poor health status will weaken this positive effect, and there even was no significant positive effect in families with members with health risks or chronic diseases. |
