Chinese immersion teaching in the perspective of CBI is a foreign language teaching based on subject content,that is,teachers use Chinese as the medium language for subject teaching,such as mathematics and science.Chinese immersion teaching in perspective of CBI combines subject knowledge with Chinese learning,allowing students to acquire language knowledge while learning subject knowledge.At present,Chinese immersion teaching in Thailand in perspective of CBI is still a new project,there is little research on this new project.Existing research is mainly focused on language courses,and there are very few studies on teaching other subjects in Chinese.In order to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of Chinese immersion teaching in Thai primary schools in perspective of CBI,this paper takes Anubanphanatsuksalai School in Chonburi Province,Thailand as an example to investigate the Chinese immersion teaching in the school’s trilingual teaching project,aiming to study:(1)What problems do the school’s Chinese immersion teaching project encounter in practice;(2)How do the students evaluate the effectiveness of the Chinese immersion teaching project,and whether they are satisfied with the status quo of the project.Adopting classroom observation,questionnaires and other research methods,this paper finds that the Chinese immersion teaching is effective,it’s effect is mainly reflected in effectively improving students’ listening and speaking abilities,expending students’ vocabulary,etc.As things stand at present,students of this school hold a positive attitude towards the effectiveness of Chinese immersion teaching,and students’ overall satisfaction is high,but there are still many problems,such as subject courses and language courses cannot be effectively combined,language teaching objectives are not clear,students’ oral ability and writing ability are imbalance,students’ production is significantly insufficient,linguistic knowledge lacks of explicit teaching.In addition to this problem,there are still some problems,such as insufficient attention,insufficient curriculum setting,lacking of appropriate textbooks for subject courses and so on.This paper puts forward feasible suggestions on the existing problems from the aspects of schools,teachers,teaching materials,evaluation methods,policies and other aspects:(1)Formulate Chinese immersion syllabus and clarify the language teaching goals;(2)Optimize the Chinese curriculum and effectively combine subject courses with language courses;(3)Strengthen the professional training of teachers,cultivate the awareness and ability of Chinese immersion teaching based on the CBI;(4)Increase the school’s emphasis on Chinese language and Chinese immersion teaching;(5)Increase the research and development of Chinese immersion teaching materials,formulate appropriate and scientific Chinese immersion teaching textbooks and workbooks;(6)Develop scientific evaluation methods for Chinese immersion teaching effects;(7)Improve policies related to Chinese immersion teaching,and increase publicity and promotion.It is hoped that this paper will be of reference significance for the promotion and development of Chinese immersion teaching in Thai primary schools,and also hope that it will play a certain reference significance for the promotion and development of Chinese immersion teaching in Thai primary schools and the dissemination and development of international Chinese teaching.
