Idol worship has always been a common problem in school education and students’ growth process.The prevalence and impact of idol worship has become an educational and social issue of concern to schools,families,and society,and has also attracted widespread attention from scholars,resulting in a large number of studies on idol worship.Positive idol worship is an important guidance and motivational value for students’ growth process.Existing studies have focused on idol worship among junior and senior high school students and college students,but fewer scholars have conducted systematic studies on idol worship among upper elementary school students.Compared with urban areas,students in rural areas are at a disadvantage in terms of access to and use of Internet media and information acquisition and utilization due to various factors,and they cannot form a clearer perception of their idol worship,so they need more educational guidance on idol worship behavior.Therefore,it is important to find out the problems of idol worship among upper elementary students in rural areas,explore the causes of the problems,and propose practical strategies for them according to their current idol worship situation.In order to understand the idol worship problem of upper elementary students in rural areas,820 elementary school students in grades 5 and 6 in two rural elementary school,H Primary School and X Primary School,Huangmei County,Hubei Province,were selected as the subjects of this study,and the data were collected and analyzed using SPSS19.0 software through questionnaire research and interviews.The results of the study showed that the idol worship problems in the upper elementary students in rural areas are: the purpose of idol worship is entertainment first,the standard of idol worship is to focus on superficial appreciation,the way of idol worship is to blindly choose and excessively follow idols,and the content of idol worship is to a certain degree of illusion and vulgarity.Based on this,we analyze the causes of idol worship among upper elementary students in rural areas from their own level,school level,family level and social level.The causes include: the herd mentality caused by the sense of belonging,the rebellious mentality caused by self-identity,and the youthful sensual impulse;the defects of traditional role model education and the absence of idol education in schools;the family education philosophy favoring exam-oriented education,the polarization of family parenting style,and the lack of teaching by example in family education;the influence of pluralistic values in social transformation and the misleading mass media.Based on the analysis of the problems and causes of idol worship among upper elementary students in rural areas,this paper uses the value clarification theory from the perspective of educational administrators and proposes corresponding strategies for the educational guidance of idol worship among upper elementary students in rural areas based on the theory’s three stages of selection,cherishing and action.Specific strategies include: Improving elementary school students’ cultivation so that they choose idols rationally;Strengthening school management to correct the deviation of elementary school students’ idol choice;Purifying the external environment to weaken the negative influence of elementary school students’ idol choice;Learning from idols by practicing and learning come together.
