| Women with disabilities are excluded from social subjects due to the conspiracy of traditional stereotypes and neoliberal value discourses. The fluid space of short videos has important practical significance for the reconstruction of the identity of women with disabilities. This paper takes Castells’ network society and identity power theory as the basic framework of this research, and uses women with disabilities at Bilibili as the research object, using qualitative research methods of text analysis and in-depth interviews,to examine the practice of short video identification performance of women with disabilities in the Chinese context. The study found that disabled women became the power subject of identity construction by entering the short video space, and reconstructed a new subject identity in the confrontation and dialogue with traditional stereotypes and neoliberal values to return to society.Limited influence requires the focus of official media, government agencies and social organizations in order to truly exert the power of identity. This dissertation is divided into six chapters,of which the third to fifth chapters are the main part of the argumentation, and there is a juxtaposition and inheritance relationship. The first chapter explains the research background, literature review, theoretical concepts, research ideas and research methods, and highlights the fit between the identification performance of disabled women at Bilibili in this study and Castells’ theory of network society and the power of identity. The second chapter traces the identification of disabled women from the pre-Qin period to the present. The development of short video media technology in the network society has transformed the subject and content of the identification of disabled women. The third chapter discusses the legitimizing identity of disabled women’s self-perceived,from the real social local space to the short video flow space, and expounds the agenda and specialization of the legitimizing identity from the invisible disabled women’s perception to the disabled women’s perspective, both exhibit the social exclusion of legitimizing identity. The fourth chapter discusses the self-written resistance identity, from the three types of resistance: direct "problemization",vulnerable "presentation" and strategic "ideographic",to clarify that women with disabilities,as visible subjects of power, break down barriers and draw a clear line from legitimizing identity. The fifth chapter discusses project identity of subject reconstruction, and analyzes the disabled women’s return to life from the three perspectives of the content of identity, the way of identity, and the source of identity, takes life as the link, and reconstructs a new subject identity in the process of dialogue with legitimizing identity. The sixth chapter summarizes the research conclusions, clarifies that the purpose of the disabled women’s identity is to reintegrate into society, and at the same time reflects on the revision of Castells’ theory and the practical significance and limitations of the research. |
