The Influence Of Traditional Culture On Nonprofit Performance: Evidence From Foundation Individual Giving Income

On August 17,2021,General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out at the tenth meeting of the Central Finance and Economics Committee that we must adhere to the people-centered development philosophy,promote common prosperity in high-quality development,correctly handle the relationship between efficiency and fairness,and build the first The basic institutional arrangements for distribution,redistribution,and coordination of three distributions.This directive emphasizes the important position of non-profit organizations in my country’s economic and social development.As an important indicator of the performance of non-profit organizations,donation income is crucial to the development of philanthropy.Among the donation income of non-profit organizations in my country,individual donation income accounts for a small proportion,and there is great room for improvement.Based on the ethical value and social norm theory of Confucian culture,this paper uses the donation data of foundations in my country from 2006 to 2018 to empirically test the impact of Confucian culture in the area where the foundation is located on individual donation income.The study found that:(1)the stronger the Confucian cultural atmosphere in the area where the foundation is located,the higher the individual donation income of the foundation;(2)when the residents in the area where the foundation is located has a higher sense of well-being and parenting pressure,Confucian culture has a greater impact on the foundation.The positive effect of individual donation income becomes smaller.This paper further divides foundations into two categories: education and non-education according to the purpose of establishment,and conducts group tests,and finds that the above effects are more significant in educational foundations.The conclusions of this paper still hold after a series of robustness tests.This paper expands the research on the individual donation income of foundations,and provides policy suggestions for the development of philanthropy in my country.
