Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)put forward eleven core qualities of mathematics.Mathematical operation ability,as one of the eleven core qualities,is the basic ability that students need to possess in mathematics learning. The sixth grade is not only the last stage of primary school learning, but also the key stage for students to develop mathematical skills. The level of arithmetic ability directly affects the effect of students’ mathematics learning and lays the foundation for students’ future mathematics learning.Through the process of teaching and correcting students’ homework in school, teachers found that students would have a lot of calculation problems. Therefore,it is very meaningful to study the mathematics operation ability of the sixth grades. In this study, the author adopted the definition of mathematical ability in the Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 edition),combined with the division of mathematical ability in the Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Ordinary High School(2017edition),and divided the mathematical ability of primary school into three levels.Test papers and questionnaires were compiled based on the requirements of primary school mathematics operation teaching content. In this paper, literature analysis, questionnaires and interviews were used to select some sixth grade students from two schools in Lu’an City for investigation.Excel and IBM SPSS Statistics 25 software were used to conduct quantitative analysis on the questionnaire results and qualitative analysis on the interview results of students and teachers,to understand the current situation of the sixth grade students’ mathematical operation ability and mathematical operation learning, and to obtain the non cognitive factors affecting students’ cognitive development,so as to provide some suggestions for teaching.Through the data analysis of the test paper,it is found that:(1)the arithmetic ability of the sixth grade students who participated in the test can mostly reach level 3,but the overall level needs to be improved, especially to improve the mathematical arithmetic ability of students in solving practical problems.(2)There is no significant difference in the level of mathematical operation ability of sixth grade students from different schools and different genders. Finally, according to the survey results, the non cognitive factors that affect the sixth grade students’ mathematical operation ability are proposed.Based on the analysis of the test questions of the sixth grade students’ mathematical operation ability and the investigation and analysis of the current situation of students’ mathematical operation learning,it is concluded that the non intelligent factors that affect the sixth grade students’ mathematical operation ability mainly include four points: 1.Students’ interest in mathematical operation;2.Teachers’ teaching methods;3.Students don’t form a good habit of mathematical operation;4.Lack of good personality.Based on the research analysis and conclusion of the above survey, combined with the interviews and usual teaching experience, the author proposes teaching suggestions for learning and teaching mathematical operations.
