"Leftover women" is a social phenomenon that cannot be ignored and has become a buzzword nowadays. Not only is it an important topic when people talk about family and marriage, but it has also become the object of keen attention in TV dramas. Many domestic modern urban dramas have focused on "leftover women",taking "leftover women" as the main character and presenting the complex emotional changes of "leftover women" according to their relationship status and daily life. The main character is the "leftover woman",and the complex emotional changes and the search for self-identity of the "leftover woman" are graphically presented according to her emotional status and daily life, thus creating a unique and socially resonant image of the "leftover woman".This paper mainly uses the media image construction theory to take the "leftover women" presented in modern urban dramas as the object of study,so as to summarize which typical images of "leftover women" are constructed in modern urban dramas, what construction methods are used, and carefully analyze the way modern urban dramas portray "leftover women".We also analyze the reasons and problems behind the image of "leftover women" in modern urban dramas, and try to explore ways to solve the problems. The paper is divided into the following six parts. In the introductory part, the background, significance and research method of this paper are systematically explained through the analysis of the literature on communication and sociology and the summary of the main concepts. The first chapter briefly introduces the origin and definition of the term "leftover women" and the situation of TV series focusing on "leftover women".At the same time,a detailed analysis of urban dramas with the theme of "leftover women" is conducted, and the main types of "leftover women" portrayed in modern urban dramas are summarized. In the second chapter, the author analyzes how modern urban dramas construct the image of "leftover women" by linking the research contents of drama production and narrative studies with the interpretation of the image of"leftover women" after watching a large number of dramas with the theme of"leftover women"."The third chapter is a problem analysis.Chapter 3 is a problem analysis.Although the portrayal of "leftover women" in modern urban dramas is refreshing, the over-focusing and amplification of the image of independent and self-confident "leftover women" has served as an incentive for young women to become financially independent, thus making them avoid the risk of marriage. This has increased the risk of young women marrying late and unmarried. At the same time, the problem of stereotyping the image of "leftover women" also obscures the image of "leftover women" in reality and brings a certain negative demonstration.Chapter 4 is an analysis of the causes.Based on the understanding of the image of "leftover women" in modern urban dramas, the fourth chapter examines the three directions that affect the image of "leftover women",namely, social culture, media communication in the consumer era and the creation and production of dramas. The main reasons for the construction of the image of "leftover women" in TV dramas are analyzed.Chapter 5 tries to explore the ways to solve the problem of the media image of "leftover women" from three levels: the state, the media and the audience. There is no doubt that urban dramas with the theme of "leftover women" present a rich three-dimensional image of "leftover women" and pay much attention to their love, marriage and family, which has a certain social realistic significance, but there are also problems that deserve our attention. However, there are problems that deserve our attention. As a kind of mass media, modern urban dramas must be aware of their social responsibility and reflect the relative reality of social reality.
