Family is the first environment for the teenagers’ growth and parental involvement in education is the important force in shaping their behavior patterns.Although it has received attention from all walks of life,there are few studies on the influence of parental involvement in education on adolescent deviate behavior.Under the guidance of social capital theory and social control theory,the paper uses structural equation modeling(SEM)and other methods to analyze the data from the China Education Panel Survey for 2014-2015 to test the influence of different participation methods on adolescent deviant behavior,investigate the influence of parental involvement in education on adolescent deviate behavior and its path mechanism and explore the group differences in the influence of parental involvement in education on adolescent deviate behavior and then to provide empirical basis for the prevention of adolescent deviant behavior and the improvement of education policy.The empirical results show:(1)There are gender,urban-rural and class differences in China parental involvement and adolescent deviant behavior.Among them,girls’ parents are more involved in companionship,communication and supervision than boys’ parents,but there is no difference in family-school cooperation.The level of involvement of urban parents is higher than that of rural parents and the level of involvement of high-class parents is higher than that of low-class parents.Boys’ deviant behaviors are higher than girls.Rural adolescents have more deviant behaviors than urban adolescents and low-class adolescents have more deviant behaviors than high-class adolescents.(2)Parent-child companionship,parent-child communication,parental supervision and family-school cooperation have an inhibitory effect on adolescent deviant behavior.Among them,parental supervision and family-school cooperation have a stronger inhibitory effect.(3)The parental involvement has no direct effect on adolescents’ deviant behavior and inhibits their deviant behavior through parentchild relationship,adolescents’ self-expectation and adolescents’ self-control completely.Among them,adolescents’ self-expectation becomes the core path of parental involvement affecting adolescents’ deviant behavior.(4)The influence of parental involvement in education on adolescent deviate behavior has class,urban-rural and gender differences.Firstly,relative to the low-class,parental involvement in education has a stronger inhibitory effect on the deviant behavior of high-class adolescents as a whole and parental involvement in education only has a direct inhibitory effect on the deviant behavior of high-class groups.However,parental involvement has a greater effect on reducing deviant behavior in low-class groups through adolescent self-expectation.Secondly,relative to rural adolescents,the improvement of parental involvement in education is generally more beneficial to reducing the deviant behavior of urban adolescents and parental involvement in education has a more positive effect on the parent-child relationship of urban groups.However,self-expectation has a stronger inhibitory effect on rural group deviant behavior.Thirdly,relative to girls,parental involvement in education has a stronger inhibitory effect on boys’ deviant behavior as a whole.However,parental involvement has a greater inhibitory effect on girls’ deviant behavior through parent-child relationship.Based on the research results,the paper puts forward suggestions from the perspectives of family,school,state and society in order to achieve the healthy growth of teenagers and promote equity of education and society.
