With the changing requirements for talent training in the new era,the implementation of the new curriculum reform concept and the changes in students’ abilities required by the new entrance examination questions,the "textbook first" teaching can no longer meet the needs of high school chemistry teaching.Theme-based teaching can overcome the shortcomings of knowledge orientation and help students acquire cognition,expand their thinking,enhance their concepts and improve their abilities,as well as develop core chemical competencies through physical and psychological engagement.These functions are in line with the nurturing goals of the new era,the educational purposes of the new curriculum and the requirements of the new college entrance examination for assessing students’ abilities.In order to change the teaching style of senior chemistry,to implement the goal of "cultivating people with moral character",and to implement students’ core competencies in chemistry,this paper uses literature research,questionnaires and surveys.In this paper,we use literature research,questionnaire survey,Lesson practice method and statistical analysis method to try to apply the theme-based teaching design in the teaching of elemental compounds in senior chemistry,and conduct a practical study of teaching.Firstly,this paper summarizes and summarizes the concept of chemistry theme-based teaching through literature research method,which will guide the application of theme-based teaching to the practice of senior chemistry;it identifies the educational theoretical basis on which this study is based,including constructivism theory,life education theory,and multiple intelligence theory,which provides theoretical support for the study.Secondly,through the questionnaire survey to analyze the current situation of senior students’ chemistry learning ability in the sample schools,we found that the current senior students are very interested in learning chemistry knowledge such as experimental operation and substance preparation,but students’ problem solving,experimental investigation and peer learning ability are still at a low level,and the development of chemistry core literacy in teaching is also lacking,which indicates that it is necessary to change the teaching style in the classroom of senior chemistry learning.Based on the above research,in order to effectively implement theme-based teaching,this paper proposes five principles to be grasped in designing theme-based teaching: the principle of basic chemical learning,the principle of holistic teaching content,the principle of distinctive theme situations,the principle of inspirational teaching process,and the principle of transferability of knowledge construction.Based on the above five principles,a theme-based teaching model in the context of core competencies is constructed.The design process of the model is as follows: study the teaching content,analyze students’ learning situation and design literacy-oriented teaching objectives to determine the theme;design the real theme situation,divide the theme teaching links,set the theme teaching tasks,and guide to solve the discursive problems,so as to realize the theme by context-driven;sublimate the theme through knowledge sorting and transfer application.Themes.Based on the proposed principles and models of theme-based teaching design in the context of core competencies,the questionnaire survey and student interview analysis of the pre-test of the case theme knowledge content clarify the learning level of each theme case teaching,this study designs three theme-based teaching cases: "Exploring the mystery of sodium-air battery","I am a ’chlorine leak management firefighter’" and "The ’past life’ of iron products",and implemented the Teaching practice.The results of various post-teaching evaluations showed that the implementation of theme-based teaching practices was effective for students to master the core knowledge system of high school chemistry,exercise their thinking ability to solve actual problems,and enhance their competencies level.This paper enriches the examples of theme-based teaching in high school chemistry and provides ideas for front-line teachers of high school chemistry to design and implement theme-based teaching in the context of core literacy.
