Polya’s Problem-Solving Thought Used In High School Plane Vector Problem Solving

Abstract/Summary:
Plane vector is a bridge between geometry and algebra.As a important part of high school mathematics course,the study of plane vector helps cultivating students’ core mathematical literacy.Therefore,this study investigates and analyzes the current situation of plane vector problem solving based on Polya’s problem-solving thought.This study first concentrates on literature review of Polya’s problem-solving thought in mathematics.Subsequently,based on the above research,a questionnaire and test were prepared to investigate plane vector problem solving status of students based on polya’ problem-solving thought.It was obtained that students did not pay enough attention to the questions at the stage of understanding the topic,and the mistakes that easily occurred included answering the wrong questions,tampering with the conditions,misinterpreting the meaning of the questions,not exploring the hidden conditions,and at the stage of making plans,students did not yet have an overall concept of the view contained,could not master the knowledge points thoroughly,and were not good at the combination of numbers and shapes.In the execution stage,students do not have the concept of checking,are prone to calculation errors and are not good at classified discussing.At the review stage,students lack the awareness of checking,multi-solving and extending solutions to another questions.Next,interviews with teachers and classroom observations summarized the current state of teachers’ teaching of plane vector problem solving.At the stage of understanding the problem,teachers pay attention to the analysis of the topic,but still focus on the lecture method,without allowing students to have a straightforward process of thinking about and analyzing the problem.At the stage of making plan,they focus on the analysis of ideas in relation to the topic and knowledge.At the stage of execution,the board process is standardized and logical,but due to time constraints,some steps are still chosen to be omitted.At the stage of reviewing,teachers focuses on the summarizing the problem,and the extension of the solution.Finally,according to the above survey,corresponding suggestions were made for the four stages:in the stage of understanding the problem,correcting the attitude of reading the problem,developing the habit of examining the problem,focusing the multiple representations and exploring the hidden conditions.In the stage of making plans,mastering the basic knowledge,focusing on the combination of numbers and shapes.In the stage of carrying out the plan,improving the calculation ability,standardizing the writing,focusing on classified discussing.In the stage of reviewing,developing the habit of checking,focusing one problem with more solutions,learning to summarize.At the same time,teaching strategies are applied to real classrooms,giving concrete examples of teaching and learning.
