As a core theory in the key competencies of history subject,historical materialism is the theoretical basis and guiding ideology of history teaching.In the context of the new round Curriculum Reform,the new high school history curriculum standards highlight the position and functions of historical materialism in teaching,including promoting personal development and achieving educational goals.This large and complex theoretical system builds upon Marx’s general ideas about the development of human history,serving as a scientific conception of history and methodology to objectively view and understand history.To study the implementation of historical materialism in high school history teaching,attention should be first paid to its vital carrier—the teaching materials.By analyzing the embodiment and application of historical materialism in the new edition of the high school history teaching textbook Outline of Chinese and Foreign History,the thesis clarifies that historical materialism is the guiding ideology and principle of the compilation of high school history textbooks.Meanwhile,the historical materialism in the content and auxiliary systems of textbooks is explored to assist teachers in studying and employing the teaching materials.Then,the specific application and implementation of historical materialism in high school history teaching practice are discussed,combined with the teaching situation.The investigation shows that historical materialism becomes increasingly significant in high school history teaching.However,there are some problems and shortcomings in the cultivation of students’ historical materialism,such as the teachers’ simplistic and superficial explanation of historical materialism,their neglect of the teaching effect and students’ learning situation,and students’ confusion about related concepts.This thesis attempts to propose some suggestions to address these problems,including establishing a scientific historical view under the guidance of historical materialism,learning historical materialism in history reading,acquiring its meaning through in-depth teaching,etc.,followed by specific examples.The cultivation of historical materialism is an important part of achieving the goal of the history curriculum and carrying out the task of moral education.In high school history teaching,teachers should correctly recognize its position and functions,attach importance to the infiltration of historical materialism in teaching,and strive to improve their theoretical level and professionalism.Through the scientific and effective cultivation of students’ materialistic historical literacy,we hope to promote the advancement and transformation of history teaching.
