Research method is an important tool of academic research,which has an important influence on the scientificness and validity of research.Under the trend of empirical research in higher education,the analysis of the application of empirical research methods in dissertations is helpful to summarize the current situation of the application of research methods,find the existing problems in the application of research methods,and put forward timely solutions to help colleges and universities improve the quality of talent training and promote the construction of higher education disciplines.This paper takes master’s degree dissertations of higher education as the research sample,and analyzes the application of quantitative research methods for dissertations of five universities from 2016 to 2020 through content analysis method.On the whole,quantitative research methods in dissertations are rich in variety and concentrated in selection.Graduate students have a basic understanding of the nature and use of research methods,and have developed a sense of revealing the characteristics of data distribution.In recent years,the application of quantitative research methods in academic dissertations has become increasingly standardized,and graduate students have a profound theoretical understanding of quantitative research methods,and the reliability and validity of research samples have been improved year by year.However,there are also some problems such as misuse and deficiency of research methods,lack of basis in research tool design and neglect of data details.On this basis,through interviews with 10 graduate students from representative universities,the reasons for the problems are summarized from the three aspects of students,courses and tutors: at the student level,graduate students lack learning initiative and have misunderstanding of research methods;At the curriculum level,the unreasonable time,content and assessment Settings of the research method course lead to little gain in class.At the level of supervisor,the implicit influence of supervisor’s "authority",the neglect of dissertation research method guidance and the limitation of individual research path influence students’ effective guidance.In view of the reasons,suggestions for improvement are put forward: graduate students should strengthen their study of research methods,enhance their learning autonomy,deeply understand the connotation of research methods,and combine theoretical study with practical application.Colleges and universities should answer the four basic questions of the curriculum well,clarify the objectives of the curriculum,optimize the structure of the curriculum,reform the organizational form of the curriculum,and establish and perfect the evaluation standard.The tutor strengthens the guidance of research methods,the teacher forms an open learning atmosphere,strengthens the follow-up of students,and helps students build their learning confidence. |
